Please help. I will be at J/burgh airport 7/3/18. Is it far by taxi to the square. Also are there good jewellery shops in the mall.
I would love to buy a BIG 5 BRACELET.
Approx taxi fare around ZAR 200 one way, other option catch a cab from your accommodation.
Take the GAUTRAIIN from airport to Sandton approx $30 and about 15-20mins. Very safe. Just need to purchase a card at station when get ticket. 300 m walk to Mandela Square from Sandton station and sandton city mall goes straight off Mandela sqaure via an arcade. All very safe and good shops.
From the airport app. 30 minutes and it is the biggest shopping mall in the Southern Hemisphere you can shop anything
Depending on traffic it can take an hour or less. Lots of jewelry shops
As others have said...catch the train unless you have a lot of luggage. Once you get to the shopping centre you will find a wide range of outlets from local craft to high end designer.
Take the train if alone. It's cheaper. Train service is excellent
It is not far. It is convenient to get to the square by taxi You can get the necklace you describe in the airport.
Catch the Gautrain from O.R.TAmbo airport. It will take you 10 minutes and the Sandton station is next door to the Mandela square entrance. Try the shops next to the Sandton hotel for memoribilia. there are also curio shops in the aisle down from Tashas restaurant. please be streetwise like you would be in any big city in the world. bonne voyage
All you have to do is take the train! No taxi and it is nice and safe, I mean very safe and clean. It will bring you to Nelson Mandela time Square straight from the airport. Please don't take a taxi or Uber, just a waste of money. Train is cheaper and really really safe and reliable!
About 25 minutes drive from JNB, traffic permitting... like another poster said, it’s basically a statue surrounded by a nice shopping mall... we went there only because we were staying in sandton, but to make it a special trip, i’m not sure it’s worth it....
If there are only a couple of you then get the Granton train to the square, if your staying in Sandton then it's worth going there however if your staying in jo burg then it is only a large statue and a nice plaza and mall. If you do go there I would recommend a nice steak at the butchers restaurant and ask for medium argentine ribeye yummy!
Hi. You are better off getting the shuttle train service from The airport to Sandton. It is quick, safe and efficient. It is then a brief walk to Mandela Square. There are jewellery shops in the malls so you should not be disappointed.
sandtown is quite close to the airport you can order a taxi at the info desk. There are numerous jewelry shops in sandton square centre. The duty free at the airport in Jbg has amazing shops and you will find it there too, less hassle
