Hi, we are going at the beginning of April and very excited. Do you need to take malaria tablets for this area?
Thank you everyone, very helpful! Glad you enjoyed your trip. We are going very soon and also wondered what to wear. Is it cold morning and night this time of year?
We were there at the end of December and we did not see any mosquitos.
Hi, we went there in early February, still summer time in South Africa. We took Mefloquine, once every week, as advised by my doctor. BTW, Kuname is on the bank of a river. But, there was no water in the river during our stay because of no rain for a couple of weeks. So, there was no mosquitos during that period. I probably would not to take them during the dry season, the winter months over there.
When we were there, it hadn't rained for 2 years so we didn't need them. It has since rained so as a precaution, I would take them! Start the day before and when you arrive ask the staff who are very helpful. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
Kuname is just outside the drawn map area for significant malaria exposure. Some of this is time of year depend and some is dependent on your willingness to use heavy deet and long sleeves at dusk and dawn.
We chose not to take the malaria tablets (and their associated side-effects) - and instead took the above precautions
it's not a malaria area. no need
Yes. Prepare yourself for a magnificent experience.
we took them because "is it really worth the risk? " malarone are best although of course the most expensive, although nowadays you can shop online. Enjoy.
