My daughter, turning 21 in December, has never been horseback riding and has wanted to for years. Wondering how much and what an excursion would include? Would we have an opportunity to run or canter? Where do we ride?
Thank you for the info.
You need to trailer in your own horses and use the trails at Garland Park. Trail rides to the public are offered at Pebble Beach Equestrian Center and Andrew Molera State Park (near Big Sur.) Trail rides are walking only.
There are no horse rentals at Garland. Lots of riding trails though. Also, if she has not ridden, I would not recommend cantering or running first time out. There is an equestrian center at Pebble Beach, where you can go out on a trail ride, not sure about current costs. You will almost certainly not be cantering!
Good luck - the trails through the Monterey Forest are great!
You can also check with Carmel Valley Ranch. I have only seen individuals riding on certain trails on Garland - most of the trails do not allow horses. My daughter loved the beach ride offered by Monterey Bay Equestrian. I also do not know how much it costs.
Most of the horseback riding in Garland is private and done through the various barns in Carmel Valley. Another possibility is riding on the beach with Monterey Bay Equestrian, which many consider the best! You can google them, because they don't allow URLs here.
