I worked on a railroad reconstruction crew on a section of the Katy railroad south of Columbia in the hot summer of 1970. The railroad rails had to add 10 degrees to the ambient temperature. I deleriously crawled off the tracks at one point to find shade. This had to be heat stroke. I would love to explore the trail from Rocheport to Hermann but in the spring or fall. What are the RV camping facilities along the trail? I have a 20 foot Roadtrek Camper Van. Any recommendations for a bike rack for that RV? It has a large spare tire mounted on the rear door and I also have a trailer hitch.

There are campsites near the Katy trail in and near Jefferson and in Herman. Do not personally know if there are others in between. If you have a trailer hitch receiver, there are several bike racks on line which mount in the hitch receiver and will clear the spare tire.

Graham Cave State Park on I-70 has a nice campground. That part of the Katy is our favorite...A bike rack with an extension will clear your spare.
