Whether renting a vehicle is the best choice for you will depend on how independent you would like to be and how comfortable you feel with the fact that roads and driving in Belize are very different to the US. If you decide on a rental car, it is definitely recommended to choose a 4WD with high ground clearance
We rented a car, and once we got there never used it again. Once you drive the road you probably won't want to drive it again until you leave.
The lodge runs all its own tours right from the property and has free bikes to use to get to close-by locations.
Next time we go we'll be letting them pick us up!
No, I would not. The road is long and bumpy and it is more fun to have a guide. 7 days might be too long unless you plan on reading a lot. 4 nights is best cuz it leaves you with a day to just hang out. Then you should fly to San Pedre and do the beach and water stuff for 5 days
