Skotel Alpine Resort Questions & Answers

I'm booked, from Texas, taking my two grandson's skiing. How far is the drive from Auckland and is there a bus service from Auckland or a car hire available. Thank you so much.

You can take the train from downtown Auckland and not have to worry about driving. The hotel will arrange a shuttle from the train station. Enjoy!

I personally would hire a car at auckland airport with GPS facilities. It would approximately take 6hrs to drive there as the road would be new to you, depending when you travel

Car tyre chains may be required for the last half to 3/4 hr of the trip. ( worst case scenario )

Beautiful place hope the weather is kind for your trip,

Rotorua is a great place to visit too for the thermal pools but can in places smell like over burnt eggs due to the sulphur!!! Would be of interest I am sure, half way point from auckland to mountain

We took the Northern Explorer train from Auckland and it was a fantastic way to see more of the countryside. It was a 5 1/2 hour trip and there was a shuttle organised by our hotel waiting for us at the station.

There is a good bus service from Auckland to Whakapapa village but also easy car hire. Just make sure you have a car which is suitable for cold and icy conditions. Look on the Internet for buses. All major car hire firms at the airport.

Remember we drive on the left and please get some rest before you pick up your car and head for the mountain.

The easiest way would be to pick up a car at the airport and drive. Roads are slow in NZ so would take about 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic and how fast you drive. Remember you are on the other side of the road! So take care.

Your drive is a decent distance. I'd get a car hire if you can find one. It's 327km...four plus hour drive without traffic. It's not a quick drive at all.
