We are 10 pax from US Hawaii. I am having trouble getting the logistics of planning for western Norway. Is this do-able? We do not have a car.
Iceland > Tromso (2N) > Bergen (2N) > ferry to Balestrand (stay at Balestrand Hotel,1N) > NIN via Flam and Myrdal > Oslo
We are flexible, is there a better routing?
I can only comment on the Norway part. Given your projected itinerary, you do not need a car. We rented one for a few days from Balestrand but that's only because we were also staying at a hostel further north. The owners of the Balestrand Hotel will come to the ferry and pick you up. They are wonderful, in every way.
Have a great time. Norway is a gorgeous country and particularly where you are going.
I think this is a terrific intinerary, Wish I could join you. Be sure and check the express ferry to Flam schedule from Balestrand. It is a very quick stop.
More important make sure the boat form Bergent to Flam, Railway to Myrdal works for you and your schedule, I have only taken it the other directon. Be sure you have all the times and tickets finalyized before you begin. If you need the help of my travel agent in Minneapolis, a Scandanavia specialist, I would be glad to send that to you.
You can take the ferry from Balestrand to Flam then after taking the Flam railway, you take the train directly to Oslo. I don’t think there is a better way and your proposed route is very scenic. The ferries are also very good. Too bad you can’t spend more time in Balestrand.
