Smart Casual is good! Nobody on the evening that we went were wearing suits or really smart dresses, as we were on a summer holiday my husband wore a pair of beige chinos and collared shirt, no tie or jacket and I had packed in a black linen shift dress and wore flat black sandals as I don't normally travel with heals!
Enjoy the experience!
Not strictly - but it's a very upmarket establishment - so elegant Riviera or understated Italian won't go wrong
I asked if I could wear Dress tailored shorts but was not allowed, I had to go across the road to a nice little Italian designer shop to buy a pair of Chino's which I wore with a short sleeved shirt, so smart casual is ok
Smart casual definitely works, but on a cool autumn evening, a jacket would definitely be preferred. This restaurant is a real gem. Enjoy!
We visited Don Alfonso in April 2016 for Sunday Lunch. It was warm so long-sleeve shirt with tie and a silk dress were very appropriate. However, evening wear in the winter would include a jacket for men and a pashmina or blazer with silk pants for ladies. This is one of the best restaurants in Italy, and the owners would certainly appreciate smart casual attire. You will feel more European/Italian and be treated accordingly.
If you wanted to dress up nobody would see anything wrong with that - this is Italy after all. But you might also be guided by the weather. If it gets too cool, you would want a jacket in the evening. But don't fret over clothing, just relax and enjoy the experience.
smart casual is fine, but it is an elegant place and it feels good to be dressed up a small bit
There's no formal dress code, most people seemed to be in some form of "smart casual" type clothes. A couple of older diners were in suit and tie and some hipster types were in designer jeans so a range of styles really.
smart casual is the way to go.
I don't know about an official code but most guests were dressed from smart casual and above.
Casual clothes aren't appropriate for this restaurant. But, on the other hand, the night we ate at Don Alfonso no one was dressed 'to the nines'. The family really wants each of their guests to enjoy the food.
Smart casual attire is what I would recommend. Not shorts for men. Dressing up is not out of place if you like to do that and are comfortable. It should be a special night.
