Montego Bay is one of Jamaica’s largest cities with a population of just fewer than 100,000 inhabitants.
Not surprisingly, the major attractions for Montego Bay are the beaches. Doctor’s Cave Beach, Cornwall Beach, and Walter Fletcher Beach are among the area’s most popular destinations.
Visitors can also consider taking one of many types of tours throughout the Montego Bay area. All types of tours, from snorkelling to tours to waterfall explorations to plantation tours, are available and are a great way to spend a day getting to know Jamaica’s beauty.
Some of the surrounding areas and the rest of St. James Parish are incredibly beautiful, but visitors should be cautious about staying in the rural areas at night as they are typically dangerous.
Montego Bay is served by Sangster International Airport (Airport code MBJ), one of the largest airports in the Caribbean. Sangster International Airport has between 3,000,000 and 3,500,000 passengers in an average year flying on over 45,000 flights.
Around 30 airlines fly into Sangster International Airport, including almost every major international American carrier. US Airways, Delta, United, American and Continental fly the most frequently to Montego Bay. WestJet offers flights to the most destinations, but like many of the carriers flying through Montego Bay, many of the routes are only operational during certain seasons.
Travellers can also reach Montego Bay by ferry. Montego Freeport is the main port for Montego Bay and services a variety of ferries and cruise ships.
