Located in the Basque region of northern Spain, San Sebastian has a population exceeding 185,000 who enjoy the serene in-city beaches and intimate pintxos bars.
San Sebastian does have a small airport (airport code EAS) approximately 20 kilometres from the city centre. Most, however, fly into or out of Bilbao (airport code BIO), which is just a 70 minute bus ride away, or Biarritz Parme Airport (airport code BIQ), which is an hour train ride away.
Spanair, Air Europa Lineas Aereas, and Iberia fly the most often out of Bilbao. Alternatively, Air France, Ryanair, and EasyJet fly out of Biarritz the most.
The most common mode of transportation is walking. There are city buses that run on a regular schedule for €1.40 each way.
A popular activity when visiting San Sebastian is to hike to Monte Urgull. On top of this mountain are both a 40 foot statue of Jesus Christ and a great view of the entire city.
Surfing is also quite popular among locals. La Concha is one of the top beaches in the city and provides tranquillity a stone's throw from central San Sebastian. On one end of La Concha Bay on top of Mount Igeldo is an amusement park that children enjoy. A cable car will bring you up and down the mountain for €1.40 each way.
