Unofficially known as Palma de Mallorca, Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands just off the coast of Spain and is home to more than 400,000 people.

Son Saint Joan or Palma de Mallorca Airport (airport code PMI) is located just eight kilometres outside of the city centre and services more than 20 million passengers each year. NIK, Air Berlin, and Spanair are popular carriers to the island.

La Seu is a gothic cathedral that is 121 meters in length. The original construction began in the 1200s commissioned by King James I of Aragon but did not finish until 1601. It overlooks the Parc de la Mar and the Mediterranean Sea.

Palma has an underground garbage collection system. The bronze bins operate by turning a handle as the refuse gets dropped below the surface.
