Flying to Santorini

Thira is the major town on Santorini, an island in the Cyclades island chain. It is a part of Greece and is located 200 kilometres south of mainland Europe in the Mediterranean Sea.

The island was created by a volcanic explosion that broke apart what used to be one larger island.

The Museum of Prehistoric Thira has great exhibits displaying ancient artefacts from settlements on Santorini during the Bronze and Neolithic Ages.

Other than the museum, travellers can shop in the shopping district or walk on the beaches.

The town also hosts a few bars and nightclubs.

Santorini/Thira National Airport (Airport code JTR) provides the easiest access to the island of Santorini. Fewer than twenty commercial airlines provide service to the island, with Olympic air flying the most frequently.

None of the airlines fly to more than a few destinations, with many of the routes only operating during certain seasons. The island is accessible from many cities all over Europe, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Cologne, Copenhagen, Oslo and multiple British cities. Sun d’Or flies from Tel Aviv to Thira seasonally. Low cost carriers Condor, EasyJet, Germanwings and Air Berlin operate flights to Santorini/Thira National Airport.
