The Republic of Mauritius is an island nation that, previous to the late 1960’s, had been controlled by the Dutch, French and British. It is located more than 900 km from the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.
English is the official language of the country, although the 1.3 million inhabitants also speak Mauritian Creole, French, Hindi, Hakka, Urdu and Bhojpuri.
