Flying to Cairo

Cairo, Egypt has the highest population density of any city in the world. It is not only the capital city of Egypt but the largest African city and the largest Arab city.

Most visitors to Cairo want to see Ancient Egypt, and getting to the Giza Pyramids usually includes going through Cairo. If travel to the pyramids isn’t on the schedule, the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities is a great way to see ancient Egypt without going into the desert.

Other than the museums, pyramids, and tombs, many tourists visit Al Azhar Park to relax and enjoy the outdoors or climb to the top of the Cairo Tower to get a nice view of all the 16 million inhabitants of Cairo.

The main train station in Cairo is the Ramses Train Station. Trains depart to multiple destinations within Egypt including the most popular destination, Luxor. Trains do not cross international borders.

The easiest way to enter Egypt from another country is to fly into Cairo.

Cairo International Airport (airport code CAI) is the largest airport in Egypt. In 2009, 143 thousand flights departed from Cairo carrying over 14 million passengers. Although the airport is only a hub for EgyptAir, it serves 70 airlines including 16 charter airlines.
