  • 1. City Panzio Matyas
City Hotel Matyas, Budapest, Central Hungary

One hundred year old hotel is located at the foot of the Elizabeth Bridge on the Pest side. Very close to Vaci Utca, shops, restaurants, banks. Good location. The entrance to the hotel is a bit hidden and there are steps up to the lobby and to the elevator (very small--accommodates only 2 persons or 1 person 1 suitcase). Try to get a room with a view of the Danube. Gigantic buffet breakfast in the Matyas Pince restaurant is included with room.

  • 2. Matthias Church (Matyas Templom)
    Matthias Church, Budapest, Central Hungary

Located in Buda's Castle Hill District. Mid-13th century church. Named after the much-loved 15th-century Renaissance king who contributed the towers and who was twice married here. Beautiful architecture!

  • 3. Matyas Pince - Basement Restaurant

Restaurant located in basement of City Panzio Matyas. Touristy, but fun and good food. Gypsy music. Try the Gundel-pancake with rum!

  • 4. Taverna Hotel
Mercure Budapest City Center, Budapest, Central Hungary

Sister hotel of the City Panzio Matyas Hotel. This 4-star hotel is located right on Vaci Utca (pedestrian street). Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. Huge buffet breakfast included with room. The Holsten Brasserie and the Zsolnay Cafe offer good food without going too far from the hotel. Hotel even has a bowling alley!

  • 5. Inner-City Parish Church (Belvarosi Plebania Templom)
Inner-City Parish Church (Belvarosi Plebania Templom), Budapest, Central Hungary

Across from the City Panzio Matyas Hotel is this 12th century church...built on a 3rd century Roman fortress! The two towers were added in the 18th century. Franz Liszt loved the acoustics in this church and performed much of his music here. He lived near by.

  • 6. Vaci Street (Vaci utca)
    Vaci Street, Budapest, Central Hungary

This pedestrian-only street in the heart of Pest has hundreds of cafes and shops/boutiques. Great to sit at an outdoor cafe, sip a soft drink, beer or wine and watch the world go by!
