Points of Interest

1. Start Here

Google mapping directions will take you to the dam at Courtright Reservoir. Cross dam and follow good road.

2. Gate for Dusy Ershim Trail

Look for gate on left before parking area.

3. Bottom of Chicken Rock

Swing left and climb very steep Chicken Rock. It's not as bad as it looks. At top head north following tracklog across barren rock.

4. Bridge Over Dusy Creek

Cross stone bridge over Dusy Creek. Trails to left go to reservoir.

5. Thompson Hill

Worst part of very difficult Thomson Hill.

6. Top of Thompson Hill

Trail finally levels off somewhat at top of Thompson Hill. Stay left to continue on main trail. Right goes to dispersed camping at Thompson Lake. You have to hike to get to the lake.

7. Halfway Point

Approximate halfway point. Road to left goes downhill about a quarter mile to East Lake with great views and good fishing.

8. Ershim Lake

Right goes to good camping at Ershim Lake. Trail continues left.

9. Mallard Lake

Road to right goes to Mallard Lake. Stay left and drop down a long nasty hill to Lakecamp Lake.

10. Scenic Overlook

High point has great views of Huntinngton Lake to he south and Edison Lake to the north. At this point you may think the hard part is over, but guess again. Some of the toughest boulder fields are yet to come. Please note that the tracklog between Point #10 and Point #11 is approximated. Follow the trail when in doubt.

11. North Gate to Dusy Ershim Trail

After a very challenging stretch of big boulders, you reach the north gate to the trail. Follow road through beautiful White Bark Vista Area. You'll see an overlook on the right as you go out. Great campspots in this area.

12. Paved Highway 80

You reach paved Highway 80 at Kaiser Pass. Turn left for Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake and Fresno.
