Susan S's City Tips

  • Take a romantic photo with the famous Inukshuk and Olympic rings. These photographs are a must for anyone who visits Whistler!
  • A tip of at least 15% is recommended at restaurants and bars.
  • Check road conditions prior to driving to Whistler. Roads can be slippery as it rains a lot in Vancouver. There also may be seasonal road closures along the highway.
  • Whistler Village has plenty of restaurants to choose from. The restaurants mostly serve Western cuisine but there are also a few ethnic options.
  • Drive to Whistler during the sunset. The view of the sunset as you drive up the Sea-to-Sky highway is incredible and truly romantic!
  • Book accommodation early, especially if you plan on going during the weekend. Whistler is a popular tourist spot so the top hotels sell out fast.
  • If you and your loved one are on a budget, bring your own snow gear. This will save you money and time waiting in line during the peak season!
  • If you're looking to warm up with great coffee and baked goods, go to Purebread in the village.

If you're looking to relax and unwind, look no further than the Scandinave Spa. This 20,000 square foot outdoor spa is the perfect spot to unwind with your partner after a long day of skiing, snowboarding, or hiking. This spa is known for its unique outdoor hot and cold pools and scenic mountain views.

    Tips
    • As part of the unique experience of a tranquil spa, there is a "no talking" policy. The quiet makes it the perfect place to clear your mind.
    • Top off your experience with a massage with your partner. The weekends tend to be busier with tourists so it is best to book in advance or try going on a weekday instead.
    • Bring your own sandals. The spa does not provide them, so it's best to bring a pair from home.

For those who love to play outside, Whistler's skiing and snowboarding scene is meant for you. This is a great date idea for couples who love snow sports. If you're new to skiing and snowboarding, try taking a lesson together, or go for the snowshoeing option. There are also plenty of hiking trails for you and your loved one to explore during the summer.

    • If you can, bring your own snow gear. This will save you on rental costs, which can easily add up.
    • Don't be surprised to see bears! As you are surrounded by nature, you may spot one or a few of them.

Cozy up with your loved one by taking a ride on the Peak 2 Peak gondola. Covering 4.4 kilometers, this is a romantic way to explore BC's beautiful outdoors, and perfect for those who like light walking and are not looking for a strenuous outdoor activity. Book at least 3 hours here if you plan to explore each stop.

    • Family
    • Nature Lover
    Tips
    • Dress warmly. Even during the spring and summer, temperatures can be cold once you get to the top. Wear the right shoes, too, as there is often still snow during the summer season.
    • Try to get one of the gondolas with a glass floor. While these require a longer wait, the experience of witnessing the spectacular views of Whistler is well worth it.
    • Avoid the food court at the top of the peak — there is a better selection at Whistler Village.
    • Get a discount by booking your tickets online five days in advance.
    • Restaurants and food are more expensive up here. If you are on a budget, bring your own snacks or eat at the village.

This is a great alternative for those looking to do a winter activity together outside skiing and snowboarding; and if you are traveling with children, you can bring them along, too!
