About Madison S
Lives in London, United Kingdom
Since Sep. 2014
Hello! I'm Maddie- a native NYer whose Wanderlust has taken her abroad again and again. Having lived in six countries, and visiting others for school, work, leisure, and sport, I've adopted many localities, and am an admirer of a great many more. An avid scholar of language and culture, I hope to keep expanding my travel repertoire, and sharing great stories with the rest of the travel community. To give you some background on my travels, I spent months each year since childhood in Old Montreal, where part of my family lives. Summers were spent visiting folks in Ft. Lauderdale and L.A. My first big trip outside of the US on my own was to Australia & New Zealand at 12- I caught the bug early! I then moved to Japan where I studied for part of high school & uni. I am very familiar with Japanese cities, Sapporo and Osaka especially. Some of my favourite travel destinations include Goreme, Dubai, Marrakech, and Queenstown. (Plans for 2015 include China & Uganda!) Nice to meet you!

The walk along Sentier du Littoral offers spectacular views from a coastal pathway. Far off the beaten trail of the Promenade des Anglais, take in the sight of Nice's craggy cliffs and sturdy shores, away from the bustle of the city center. Highlights of the walk include a view of picturesque Villefranche Bay, as well as a glimpse at some of Nice's most gorgeous waterfront homes.
At Cuisine sur Cours, cooking classes are taken to the next level. Enjoy a trip to a local market in Nice to learn the basics of French shopping. See which vegetables are fresh, and what ingredients are in season, and then head back to the school's modern kitchen, where you will turn those fresh and local finds into a three-course meal. The chefs are helpful, offering you tips, tricks, and detailed recipes, while allowing you free-reign with putting together your own dishes. Naturally, the entire event ends with the best part: actually eating what you've made!
Located at the current Science Faculty of the University of Nice Sophia, Park Valrose is a scenic location designed in the Gothic tradition. A stunning chateau sits in the middle of this enchanting park, which features cascading waterfalls, hidden sculptures, fountains, caves, and even a duck pond. A tranquil and photogenic spot unlike anywhere else in Nice, many of its materials were imported from Odessa, while its artistic license was imported from a bygone era. A great spot to relax and take in the beauty.
On this multi-hour tour of the French Rivera, take in some of the coastline's most breathtaking views. Nice shows off its most photogenic side at coveted sights such as Mount Byron, while the peaceful pathways allow visitors to enjoy the fresh air and temperate weather. The best feature are eBike's humorous and informative guides, who provide details of the city's history and culture, as well as the bikes themselves, which offer a slightly easier ride than regular bicycles, making the trip more relaxing.
Explore local vineyards with Nice Wine Tours. This is off the beaten path not only for Nice, but for wine enthusiasts in general: small, local vineyards provide tastings of incredibly unique vintages and blends, with flavors that beckon to be explored! If you're really into wine, or just want to get to know the countryside a bit more, this tour is a lovely way to see some natural beauty, meet welcoming hosts, learn about Nice's landscapes, and enjoy a day out.
Parc Castel-des-deux-Rois is a lovely local park that is especially inviting for families and picnickers. The park itself features play areas, jungle gyms, and a water park play area to delight children; while adults can enjoy the expanse of grassy lawn, panoramic views, and picnic tables. It is a popular barbecue spot, especially on weekends.
The tranquil views of Nice's sandy shores and dockyards from Cote d'Azur Observatory are paralleled only by the astronomy equipment the site has on offer. The grand observatory with its mega telescope looks at once both futuristic and ancient, immediately capturing the imagination of its visitors. Away from the noise and havoc of the main walks and squares below, Nice from on high is both peaceful and stunning, but the Cote d'Azur Observatory also inspires you to look upwards, at the sky.
Centre Rinascita provides a much-needed break from work-related stress (and tourism-related sore backs and aching feet!) The center offers Ayurvedic massages, a therapeutic body wellness ritual aimed at reducing stress and helping to relieve a number of medical conditions. The massages utilize oils, herbs, and steady breathing, all in tandem with the strong hands of the massage therapist. Lie back, relax, and let your worries be kneaded away.
The spectacular beauty of the Villa and Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild is unparalleled on this list. The stately manor home with bay views and nine sprawling gardens - featuring man-made ponds, rock gardens, and rose-laden archways - feels like a world unto itself. Inside the house with its vaulted halls, visitors can find costumes and artifacts pertaining to the history of the area, and the family that once occupied the Villa.
If you're looking for a quirky night out, Jazz Comedie Club has you covered. Evenings are enlivened with jazz quartets and live blues singers, riffing off songs in English and delivering French punchlines. Every seat in the house comes with a view, and as the club is warm and intimate, there are plenty of opportunities to interact with other musical guests. Offbeat humor, soulful music, and surprisingly good tapas await anyone who decides on a night out here.
