Eating in Ibiza is a pleasure for all the senses, thanks to the island's tasty, varied, and exquisite cuisine, which is usually served up in amazing locations and accompanied by stunning views. I really love the diversity of Ibiza's gastronomy scene, as it allows you to choose everything from typical, homestyle dishes to creative, fusion cuisine. And whatever you choose, it's all guaranteed to have been cooked using nothing but the freshest of ingredients — many restaurants even have their own vegetable gardens! Ibizan cuisine is mainly based on rice, fish, stew, and pastries. The seafood is delicious, as are the artisanal olive oil, jam, honey, cheese, and sobrassada (cured sausage). Add to this the island's white and red wines, and its home-fermented spirit known as "Hierbas Ibicencas," and you've got all the right ingredients for a food-lover's paradise!

Ana_Maria_Ramos_R's City Tips

  • Alioli, olives, and rustic bread are must-eat accompaniments at every restaurant meal.
  • You can eat barefoot at many restaurants — that's the beauty of beach locations! Try it, it's really relaxing!
  • You can’t leave the island without trying the local spirit: “Hierbas Ibicencas."
  • Try the traditional island dish "Bullit de Peix" (fish stew) with "Arroz a Banda" (a traditional Spanish rice dish).
  • If you're visiting in the height of summer, definitely book restaurants in advance, or arrive early to get a table.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Old Town (Dalt Vila). At La Torreta, all the food is delicious, so you really can't go wrong with whatever you order. It's the perfect place to go with a group, as portions are huge so you can enjoy sharing the amazing dishes around the table. If in doubt, ask the staff for menu suggestions — they're very friendly and happy to help!

El Bigotes is something a little different in Ibiza's dining scene: a really old, family-run restaurant hidden in a little bay that still has the same essence it did when it first opened. At this small and simple spot, the kitchen is in the same space as the dining area. It's all open-air, with beautiful views over the tiny bay. There is no menu, just one delicious item available — you'll enjoy a one-pot feast of rice and fish with potatoes, which is then served family-style, on one tray to each table. This restaurant is very rural, but that's what makes it so special. You'll feel as though you were dining out in the Ibiza of 50 years ago.

While this relaxed restaurant does serve up a few good, simple meals (such as eggs with fries or Spanish omelettes), it's mostly known for its homemade spirit of Ibicencan herbs (Hierbas Ibicencas). Pull up a chair and mix with the locals over a glass of the good stuff — plus some alioli, olives, and rustic bread. So simple, and yet so tasty!

This tapas bar specializing in Serrano ham, Spanish pepperoni, filet, and cheese, is a local favorite and always busy. Brave the crowds and order the tapas plate with bread on the side, or a sandwich full-to-bursting with cold cuts. Delicious! Don't forget to check out the interior's eclectic paintings while you're here — they are what first made this place famous!

For good quality, affordable food, the set menu at this restaurant is hard to beat. However, you can always choose to order from the main menu, which is also very good value for money. I feel like my mum is cooking for me every time I dine here. Everything is really yummy and authentic.
