You need to get to the Basilica of the Sagrad Familia early in your trip to BCN. You need to purchase tickets and just move for the earliest time possible. If there is only 1 thing you are going to see in BCN this would be it. The Basilica should leave an impression on you for eternity. Spend your evening strolling the streets of Barri Gotic and the adjacent El Born. You really need to go inside the Basilica. Puts Notre Dame to shame - even the French will admit to this.
Maybe a block east of the Basilica you will find the Bodega del Poblet. Not a tourist place. Go inside and get a table. The food and service is great though it is not "fancy" from the outside. Then look closely at all the old communist propaganda magazine covers on the walls.
This area and El Born (same character as Barri Gotic and adjacent to one another) may remind you of a stroll through the streets of Venice. Very old, windy streets where it is very easy to get lost. Stay north of La Rambla as the south side of the street comes up short. This area has some nice places to shop in El Born. Lots of restaurants throughout this area as well as places to get drinks. One could easily spend hours on end in this area.
Like Barri Gotic and adjacent thereto, but a little higher scale, i.e., not as many junk trinket shops. The Picasso museum is here, but, I have seen better museums and I don't recommend the place unless you are bored.
You need to go through the building. You will want photographs on the roof top. You probably won't need more than an hour here.
A building which you will never forget. The inside is beautiful. When on the roof, try to get a photo straight down the dragon's spine.
Nice street with spectacular architecture all around it, on the side streets, etc. There is fine, boutique shopping here. The Antonio Tapas Museum is about a block south of the street which is really nice. There are really nice restaurants a couple of streets south, where you can find quality, non-tourists places to eat and to have drinks.
This is an opportunity to see the beach and Barcelonita area. The beach is beautiful as is Frank Gerhry's sculpture of the gold/copper fish. If you have a car, you could also park in front of the beach and run out for a few photos.
Very pretty venue. Not expensive. Good food. Nice for anniversary or a private birthday dinner.
Everybody loves the food in this place. You cannot go wrong. There is a fantastic bar maybe two buildings removed, right in front of the twisted hanger sculpture which is quite old and very beautiful, beautiful lamps and a gorgeous old cash register. Very nice place to get a pre-dinner drink.
If you have nice weather, plan on spending 2 hours here. Take a taxi to get to the park as there is no parking. You can walk down the hill when you are through and pick up the subway to wherever you want to go. When you get to the park, buy tickets to the inner aspect of the park. If you buy tickets at 2:00 you can probably enter at 3:00. Really a special park, like nothing you have ever dreamed about.
If you appreciate modern art, this is the place to see. This museum sits on top of a mountain above the palace. Spend 1 - 1/12 hours here. The works are superb. The palace is down below the museum and Mies van der Rohe's pavilion (1929 World's Fair) is there as well (you don't need to go inside this but it is worth seeing and taking some photos of). The palace looks fantastic from a front view and night with the lights on it. You can also see the pavilion in the evening hours.
Beautiful place but you do not need to go inside. Worthy of photos no matter the time of day that you see it. Impressive architecture.
Very good causal restaurant. Sit in the back. Casual dress.
