Matt K's City Tips

  • Public transport is easy, cheap and fast. Get a metro map when you first arrive and you can't go wrong.
  • Taxis in Barcelona are cheap compared with those in other major European cities. They are another good way to get around when time is tight.
  • Don't go shopping in your swimsuit. This is an absolute no-go in Barcelona — plus you might end up with a fine.
  • Compared with those in most other metropolitan European cities, the prices are lower in Barcelona, and you can expect to find good deals in every neighborhood.
  • There are lots of small independent boutiques around Barcelona, especially in the neighborhoods of Gracia and El Born.

Well-known in Barcelona for its modernist buildings, this street is also a favorite among those looking to splash out on luxury goods. All the top-end brands are on Passeig de Gracia: Chanel, Montblanc, Lladró, YSL, Loewe, Luis Vuitton, Valentino and more. And there's always window-shopping and day-dreaming for those on a more modest budget!
