Head down Mills Point Road and take a walk along the Swan River. Here, there is a separate walking and bike path, either of which will enable you to soak in the spectacular view of the city and the Swan River. If walking or riding a bike isn't your thing, during the summer months you can hire a catamaran or kayak to appreciate the view from another perspective.

    Tips
    • Pre-book your ferry ride a day or two in advance.
    • Catch the ferry from Fremantle. It's a much quicker ferry ride and it is worth saving time so you can explore Rottnest Island for longer.
    • Catch an early morning ferry there, and one of the last ferries home. There is a lot to explore and you will want plenty of opportunity to relax and soak up the scenery at Rottnest Island.
    • Warning: the ferry ride can be a little choppy sometimes.
    • Take plenty of water, sunscreen, and a beach umbrella. It can get very hot and on many of the beaches there is little shade.
    • Bikes are one of the best ways to get around Rottnest Island. Hire a bike when you buy ferry tickets, either on the island or in Fremantle (remember to ask for the bike hire when you purchase the ferry ticket).
    • Snorkelling gear may also be a great addition to your backpack for the day. There are plenty of great places to see fish and coral here.

    Dayna J Says:

Before you head home for the evening, take a walk around the Fremantle Prison. Fremantle Prison was in operation for around 140 years and was only decommissioned in 1992! Take a tour (the torchlight tours are particularly good), and enjoy getting a little spooked.
