Anaheim is home to one of the world's most iconic attractions: Disneyland. With two theme parks and a downtown shopping area, it's easy to make an entire vacation out of several days at the Disney parks. But the neighboring area also offers a number of attractions aside from the theme parks themselves, including sports arenas, unique shopping areas, and even an indoor trampoline park. Here, a little bit of everything, in three days.

Erin D's City Tips

  • If you plan to visit more than Anaheim your family vacation, consider the Southern California City Pass, which provides discounted admission to the Disney Parks as well as Universal Studios and SeaWorld.
  • The Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) system is a great public transport option — even if you've brought your car (it saves paying for parking at the hotel and Disneyland).
  • If you can, visit Anaheim outside of the busy summer season, as that's when you'll find the lines and crowds more manageable.

Disneyland is one of the top reasons travelers from around the globe head to Anaheim. The iconic theme park is a 'must' on your trip, whether or not you have kids. The original Disneyland park features a number of iconic rides, including the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Space Mountain.

    Tips
    • If you're military or a member of an organization like AAA, check for discount tickets.
    • The nightly show, Fantasmic, is a sight to see. Line up early for a good spot to watch.
    • The lines for rides are much shorter during parades and shows such as Fantasmic. If you don't mind missing the shows, this is a good time to hit the more popular rides.
    • Disney FastPass allows you to skip lines; simply go to a ride, insert your admission ticket, and return at the time posted.

Blue Bayou is one of Disneyland's iconic restaurants and offers scenic views of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The menu is on the pricey side, but the views and food are worth it. Be sure to try the Monte Cristo, which is similar to the French croque-monsieur. It's basically a fried ham and cheese sandwich topped with powdered sugar, and served with a side of jam that you dip each bite into.

When Disney California Adventure first opened, it didn't receive the most positive feedback, but Disney has worked hard at rebranding the California-themed park. With new ride additions and enhancements, some of which are not available at any other Disney Resort in the world, Disney California Adventure is worth adding to your itinerary. Unmissable attractions include Radiator Springs Racers, Toy Story Midway Mania!, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and California Screamin'.

    • Disney California Adventure typically closes earlier than Disneyland, so park-hopper tickets are usually a good deal if you want to go back and forth between parks.
    • If you are booked at the Grand Californian Hotel, the park offers a special entrance for hotel guests only.
    • Radiator Springs Racers is one of the most popular attractions in Disney California Adventure. Head there first for FastPass tickets.

Locals know this is the place to go on any trip to Anaheim, especially when it's hot out. If you're from Philly or have traveled there at all, you've likely heard of 'Water Ice,' a Philadelphia specialty. This soft-serve ice cream is creamier with a sweeter taste, which results from the special processes utilized in its production.
