Most people traveling to Anaheim are undoubtedly planning a visit to the 'happiest place on earth' — Disneyland Resort. But while Disneyland is certainly the biggest draw to the city, Anaheim also offers other entertainments worth checking out. Great weather year-round makes it a wonderful spot to enjoy the great outdoors, whether you're seeking theme park thrills or hitting a few golf balls.

Erin D's City Tips

  • Driving around Southern California is typically the easiest way to get between attractions.
  • Most hotels around Disneyland charge for parking, so be sure to ask ahead of time and if in-and-out parking privileges are included.
  • Anaheim can get hot during the day, but it also cools down in the evening, so be sure to bring a light jacket for nighttime.
  • If you choose to skip the pricey theme park food and do a sit-down restaurant, there are ample restaurant choices near Disneyland.
  • Many restaurants around the Disneyland Resort area offer "kids eat free" options and/or specials.
  • If you're staying around the Disneyland Resort area, check out the ART — Anaheim Resort Transport.
  • Anaheim is not on the coast, so if you want to spend a day at the beach, consider Huntington or Newport.
  • If you're looking to hit a few theme parks on your vacation, Anaheim is also located close to Buena Park, where you'll find Knott's Berry Farm.

Since it opened on July 17, 1955, Disneyland has been delighting young and old with its fun rides, magnificent shows, and whimsical lands. This is the only theme park that was built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney himself, and today Main Street is just as pristine as Mr. Disney envisioned. In this wonderland, you can meet your favorite Disney characters, soar into space, sing with pirates, cruise through the jungle, and so much more.

The 72-acre Disney California Adventure Park now stands in the place of the original Disneyland parking lot. A love song to the state where it all started, the park features everything from a San Francisco-esque Pacific Wharf, where you can enjoy California's famous sourdough bread, to a Santa Monica-esque Paradise Pier, replete with the requisite ferris wheel. It's also home to the only Cars Land in existence at any of the Disney Theme Parks in the world — plus Hollywood Land, Grizzly Peak, and even a California Screamin' roller coaster that's a bit more intense than your average Disney ride.

Adventure City is a theme park that occupies just over two acres in Anaheim. Its slogan is 'The little theme park that's big on family fun,' and kids love its miniature train, airplanes, vehicles, and more. Adventure City opened in 1994 as an expansion of Hobby City, a collection of museums and novelty shops. The miniature train was originally part of Hobby City, but was expanded and incorporated into Adventure City when the park was built.

A trip to Anaheim is not complete without a stop at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, which has gone through several name changes, including Anaheim Stadium and Edison International Field of Anaheim. Angel Stadium is home to the MLB Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and was once home to the NFL Los Angeles Rams, now the St. Louis Rams. It's one of the oldest stadiums in the U.S., and is often called 'The Big A', recognizable by its landmark 'Big A' sign and marquee.

Canyon RV Park is a hidden gem in Anaheim. It's not only an RV Park, but also the gateway to Featherly Wilderness Preserve, a 795-acre wildlife area situated along the Santa Ana River. There is a seasonal pool and playground for the kids, and the bike trail nearby extends all the way down to the ocean in Huntington Beach. There is archaeological evidence that Native Americans inhabited the preserve around 4,000 years ago, and the Spanish soldiers are believed to have moved in around the 1700s.
