Seoul is massive and there are always new things to find here. Seoul does not have many traditional tourist destinations, despite what you might read on the official Korean tourist websites. Hence, the city is relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists, so you are not bothered by hawkers, vendors, or annoying tourists! In Seoul just getting around and experiencing the markets, food, and (of course) karaoke can make for a good trip.

jrh825's City Tips

  • Taxis are inexpensive compared to most major cities, but expect that your driver will not understand English. Best if you can have your destination written out in Korean.
  • The subway operates every day until midnight
  • Subway is easy to navigate, even for first-timers. City buses can often get you to your destination quicker, but are difficult to figure out for tourists.
  • Public transit is quite good. Consider buying a T-money card at one of the larger convenience stores (7-Eleven or GS25) to simplify your journey.
  • No need to tip in Seoul

    jrh825 Says:

Hobak Sikdang (Korean for "Pumpkin Restaurant") has been the go-to Korean barbeque restaurant for my friends and I while living as an expat for 3 years in Hannam-dong, Seoul. Hobak has a traditional Korean BBQ -- grill your own meat while an army of staff in orange jack-o-lantern t-shirts run around to bring you side dishes, change your grill plates, bottles of beer and soju. This place always seems full with Koreans, a testament to its simple deliciousness, and stays open *very* late

Great stadium to watch a game. The sightlines are flawless and the fans made a surprising amount of noise given how few of them attend games here. Tickets are super-cheap (~$10) compared to Europe.
