Roberto R's City Tips

  • If you are on a budget, there are several places with inexpensive fixed menus for lunch or dinner.
  • Tipping is completely optional; 10% of the bill is appropriate.
  • The Metropolitano public bus service is the best way to connect from the center of Lima to Miraflores, the most touristic area of town.
  • There are also private buses that can take you around. However, you need to know which to take, as they are not part of the public bus network.
  • Taxis are an easy way to move around; you have to negotiate the price before getting in the cab.
  • Dress casually and comfortably, unless you go to a fancy restaurant.
  • During the summer, wear light clothes and comfortable shoes. Due to the humidity, it can feel really hot!

Located in the district of San Isidro, this is a huge park of olive trees where you can do plenty of walking, set up a picnic, relax, and enjoy nature. You'll see birds and squirrels, and there's a pond with ducks and fish — it feels more like a little piece of forest than a park! A must see park in Lima.

This iconic park is in the neighborhood of Miraflores, right on "El Malecon," a six-mile stretch of parks along the Pacific. The centerpiece statue represents love, and you can find love messages written on the benches. Parque del Amor also offers an amazing view of the ocean and the whole city. It's often visited by couples as a romantic spot.

This is a place where families can have a great time! The park is located in the neighborhood of Santiago de Surco, and its signature monument is a huge arc. Children love to ride the train that goes around the park, there's a lagoon with paddle boats, and a food court offers refreshments.

Located in the district of San Miguel, this park is the very first zoo in Peru, and one of the largest parks in Lima. It also offers a botanical garden, museums, and ruins from the ancient Lima culture. One of the coolest things here is the opportunity to see examples of the different landscapes of Peru: the coast, the mountains, and the jungle. Great alternative way to spend a day with the family.

Also known by tourists as the 'cat park,' Parque Kennedy has because of the large population of cats living there, making it a unique park in Peru. There are many options for recreation and culture here, including painting exhibits, sandwich and desserts carts catering sausages and Peruvian desserts, and an amphitheater that hosts cultural activities.
