Whitney C's City Tips

  • If you're needing a space for a longer beach day, you can find a list of daily parking lots in Laguna on the City Hall web page.
  • Parking in Laguna can be pretty tricky, so your best bet is to find a spot when you arrive and then just walk from there. Parking meters are common, and they accept credit cards.
  • It's pretty typical for Southern California beaches to be overcast and even a bit chilly in the morning. It almost always burns off by noon or so, but bring a jacket just in case!

When looking for a beach in Laguna, Main Beach is the easiest one to find. It's right off of PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and right across the street from most of the restaurants and shopping. Convenient and easy to access — the perfect start to a fantastic beach day!

Right next to Main Beach, Heisler Park is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. There is a very nice trail that runs along the hillside just above the beach and provides beautiful views of the coastline.

If seclusion and peace are what you're after, Table Rock Beach is absolutely your best bet. While it's becoming more well-known, you'll be fighting way fewer people than you would elsewhere in Laguna. This is a great spot to spread out your towel or a blanket and soak up the rays!

Chances are, when you ask someone for a good beach suggestion in Laguna, they'll mention 1,000 Steps Beach. It's a workout to get down there (it has its name for a reason, although perhaps not quite 1000 steps) and even more to get back up, but it's completely worth the hike. A bit more secluded than other beaches in the area, with beautiful water, natural pools, and a cave to explore.

Aliso Beach Park is easily the most convenient of the beaches in Laguna. Parking is right by the beach, and you can even stop and drop off your stuff before parking your car. If you've got kids or just a bunch of stuff to haul around with you, this beach will make your day much more manageable and free you up to just have fun!

This place is absolutely awesome. If you have any interest in sea life whatsoever (and probably even if you don't,) you need to plan a visit as soon as possible. Tons of sea anemones, sea urchins, mussels, etc., and if you're lucky, you'll catch a marine biologist or a university student who can help explain and point things out to you!

    Tips
    • Make sure you plan your visit around low tide — you'll be able to see much more that way. Tide schedules are available on the surf forecast website.
    • Sturdy, waterproof shoes are an absolute must. The walk to the tide pools and the pools themselves are very rocky and can be quite sharp.
