Chris O's City Tips

  • For most of the year, Myrtle Beach is a laid back and family-friendly destination. But keep in mind that during March and April, throngs of university students from across America descend upon the area for Spring Break, dramatically altering the tone and pace.
  • Head to the Tourism Board (offices at the bus terminal, airport, and North Oak Street) for coupons to a wide range of attractions, shops, eateries, and more.
  • Myrtle Beach itself is a small and fairly walkable destination. The Myrtle Beach area, however, is rather spread out. Check distances between places you hope to visit in advance.

One of Myrtle Beach’s top attractions, Broadway at the Beach is a seaside mash-up of a shopping mall and an amusement park. It’s not just some shops and a few rides, though. This award-winning entertainment complex is home to three theaters, dozens of restaurants, and more than 100 specialty shops, as well as nightclubs, a few hotels, and the world’s only KISS Coffeehouse.

This large, open-air (but sheltered from the rain) flea market near the beach on the Grand Strand started back in 1975 as an antique store in an old log tobacco barn. Today, it's one of the area’s best-loved attractions and favorite places to shop.

The secret behind the success of popular seafood restaurant Mr Fish is that the place sources fresh catches from its very own, well-established Mr Fish Seafood Market. Whether you’re looking to cook up something tasty at your own home or rental, or keen to find out what’s best to order at the restaurant, Mr Fish is a smart spot for seafood lovers to keep in mind.

South Carolina’s first legal moonshine distillery is the boozy brainchild of two 'hometown boys.' As tongue-in-cheek and even kitsch as buying a jar of moonshine might seem, it’s worth keeping in mind that Palmetto Moonshine is an award winning micro-distilled spirit made to a high and exacting standard using age-old, traditional methods.

South Carolina is NASCAR (The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) country. So where better to dream big than at Ridemakerz, by making your own one-of-a-kind toy race car? This shop is a hit with the kids (big and small) with dreams of hitting the track and burning some rubber.
