The Modern is about a block from our condo and is probably one of the hippest hotels in Waikiki. You don’t have to venture far to spend a night on the town. With the restaurant, cocktail lounge and dance club, action happens on premise.

Siam Square is a quaint Thai restaurant tucked away on the second floor of a nondescript building on Lewers Street. Finding it is a chore but it is well worth the effort. I have eaten Thai in many cities and in several countries. My recent dinner at Siam Square ranks among the best of my dining experiences. The food is delicious and surprisingly for Waikiki, very reasonably priced. There is something for every taste: vegetarian, fish, beef, pork and chicken.

Much of the ship's interior is now open to the public and the the spaces are used to host displays and informative kiosks. When we visited experts were on board to explain the inner working of the ship and answer any questions. A Pearl Harbor survivor was the guest of honor and he was happy to chat with anyone who stopped by. Now That is "living history".
