I returned from a 6 night stay at Stonefield a week ago . It is a long way to go from the UK for such a short time but was worth every second. It is our fifth stay in St Lucia and our first at Stonefield. The gardens are stunning and the view from almost everywhere is stupendous.
We stayed in Machineel Ocean View Villa which was perfect. It was so private with the most stunning view that it was hard to drag ourselves away from our deck.
The view from the restaurant is also staggering and feels as if you are almost dining out at sea.
Our only criticism which is said in a constructive way and which we have already discussed with the charming and helpful restaurant manager Alcee and the new chef is : that the quality of the food does not fit with the quality of the rest of the Stonefield experience. As another reviewer says - the lack of fresh fruit at breakfast is disappointing. For our last two breakfast I did request some freshly sliced fruit and it was such an improvement on the daily fruit salad that I wish I had asked for that from the beginning. There needs to be some variety in the inclusive breakfast and the dinner could be a lot better. We do not eat meat but we do eat fish and this should have been succulently fresh every time ,but it was not. Consequently we dined out mostly at other nearby restaurants . However I must add that I have still given Stonefield ,5 stars because ,despite the food , and we are real foodies, the overall experience was exceptional. The staff were particularly lovely -kind, helpful and unpretentious. We have stayed in many hotels in many Caribbean islands and the staff here were notably the best. I must make mention of Gifta at Reception who tried to help me with a problem with our car hire ( not done through the hotel ).In fact all the staff at Reception were lovely. Mary and Alcee in the restaurant were charming and helpful . I had a lovely foot massage from Melanie who was also a delight.
This was a very special break for us without children and we were so delighted that our instincts to book Stonefield were rewarded. We, like all the other guests we met , had to pinch ourselves to check that we really were in this paradise and not just dreaming it…..
I can't wait to go back.

Gabrielle,

Thank-you for such a sparkling review. It's great that you came all that way and chose Stonefield. I think people coming to Stonefield from all corners of the world would agree that this resort is worth the long-haul flight. We new you wouldn't be disappointed! One of the greatest attributes of Stonefield is the privacy and "living on a cloud" ambience. We hope to see you back real soon.

As we are always striving for excellence, your feedback is very much appreciated and taken to heart.

Thanks again.

An overall positive experience!

However, I'll start with the negative: our check-in experience was stressful, which is not what anyone's looking for when they come here!

I'd booked 4 nights in a Hillside Ocean Villa. When we checked in, I was told something like "Okay, so you're one night in the Hillside Vila, then moving for 3 nights in the Ocean Villa, great!" Despite my confusion, I was encouraged to quickly sign off on this despite questions around what I'd actually booked vs. what I was getting. I'm still unsure whether this represented an upgrade or a one-night downgrade. I hate to sound petty, but I want what I paid for!

We attempted to ask the front desk staff during our check-in, but they acted as if moving rooms after one night was totally normal. As I continued questioning why we had to move rooms, feeling increasingly stupid for doing so, I was then put on a static-y phone call with a supervisor I could barely hear (again...this is all within one hour of our arrival in St. Lucia. Felt pretty overwhelmed!). She offered us a free couples massage for the trouble. This was a nice gesture, but I remain confused as to why/to what extent our reservation was changed. I've tried to look into this myself since returning, but their room types/prices are rather opaque and it's still difficult for me to tell whether we were just shoved into a smaller room for one night (despite having paid for a better room), or given a free upgrade for the remaining 3. Whatever the case, I would have appreciated some clarity around this rather than lip service.

Aside from that, this is a gorgeous, serene place. The view is simply irreplaceable, and the grounds were beautiful without feeling sterile. Our room (the main room we stayed in for 3 days--Jasmine) was lovely and felt like home despite our short stay. There was a bit of noise from the restaurant, so it wasn't totally isolated, but we didn't mind; just be aware, though. Aside from the check-in/room switch confusion, the staff we interacted with were helpful and pleasant.

With all the beauty immediately surrounding us, we were content enough to stay mostly right around the resort! We love when we can walk to places, so we walked to Morne Courbaril and to Malgretoute Beach (a DIFFICULT but satisfying walk back uphill. I do think Stonefield should be more upfront about this, perhaps providing a more detailed info sheet/map in rooms. We knew, because I'd read other reviews, but there's a sign that says "Beach Path" and I heard staff recommending it to other guests without clarifying that it's not an easy or pleasant walk.) We mostly used their drivers to get to several further-out locations; this was an easy process.

Stonefield is a special place located in a beautiful area and is wonderful for guests who want to get just a bit off the beaten path.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this resort, the people of St Lucia, or the beauty of the island. A friend and I were looking for a safe escape during Covid, and after reading an article about this place we decided to book a week. Everything about the resort is beautiful, from the tiny flora lined roads, to the villas and the views of the Pitons. The pools are definitely bigger than they look in photos and the outdoor shower was perfection. We were stunned from the first moment we walked into our villa and never tired of looking at the sunsets each night.

The resort did a great job of making us feel safe while still allowing opportunities to eat at different nearby restaurants, go on hikes, and spend time at the beach. We spent most meals at the resort restaurant (amazing views!) and LOVED the staff there and their warmth and kindness. We went to the spa the day before we left and I can only describe the massages from the wonderful women there as magical. I've never had a massage where I didn't have to say a word, they could just tell how my body felt and how to make it feel more relaxed. It was the perfect end to a great week.

All in all, traveling to St Lucia and Stonefield was the best decision we could have made and we feel so lucky that the staff there was so thoughtful and able to make our stay perfect. I would go back in a heartbeat!

My husband and I stayed at Stonefield from August 4-11, 2008 for our honeymoon. We chose Stonefield after countless hours of research and reading Trip Advisor reviews. We were fortunate to book Frangipani for our stay and it was wonderful.

After our long travel to St. Lucia we were so happy to see Alfred at the airport holding our name on a sign, as planned, and were were off to a wonderful start. The ride from the southern airport, UVF, was an experience. The roads are narrow and very curvy with up and down steep inclines, but well paved. We highly recommend arranging the airport transfer and I was happy I still had Dramamine in my system from the flight because I am motion-sick. Alfred was wonderful to make conversation with and answer questions along the way. When we arrived at Stonefield, even before getting out the the van, each of the reception staff shook our hands and introduced themselves. We knew then that we had make the right choice to stay at a smaller resort, away from the Castries and the crowds of people at resorts like Sandels. The personal touch is so nice.

We booked the Romance Package with an upgrade to Frangipani and the few extra dollars is well worth it.

The Villa: The pool is huge and the views amazing. We brought along a blow-up raft to float in the pool and we wished we had two! The pool is definitely large enough and the breeze will float you along so you get the best all-around tan. As far as we can tell, Frangipani has the best views from the resort. When asked by the staff what villa were were staying, they smiled and said it was the best villa. The outdoor shower is nice and keeps the room less humid. The view of the Gros Piton is astonishing and so nice to wake up to and also watch the moon rise behind. We loved the sound of crickets and frogs that started as soon as the sun set. The villa is surrounded by banana plants and lots of other flowers and vegetation that would be visited by beautiful hummingbirds and other birds. The little lizards were cute and we had a few small cats that would visit the villa from time to time and curl up on or under a chair on our porch. We are not cat people but they were very sweet and would stay their distance unless you initiated patting them. The kitchenette was nice to have to refrigerate beverages. Our first day we took the shuttle into Soufriere and stocked up on rum, piton beer, and snacks. Our only complaint was that the king-sized bed was definitely on the firm-side and a little difficult to get used to. The A/C was a bonus to have during the humid days and for good sleeping at night. We also slept with the mosquito netting down eventhough we had the villa closed for the night, as the bugs always seem to find my husband. The cleaning staff was reliable and great. They would come when we were at breakfast to clean up the villa, sweep, and clean the pool. If you did not want them to visit, you just put the beads on the outside of the villa door and no one would bother you throughout the day. We enjoyed the sunset each evening at the villa, hanging out on the porch, swinging in the hammock, listening to cds we had brought and the drinks we made.

The restaurant: The Mango Tree staff is soooo nice and accommodating. We were on the MAP meal plan which included breakfast, dinner, and non alcoholic beverages. Each meal was wonderful. We had questioned whether to have the all-inclusive meal plan that includes alcoholic beverages and lunch, but the meals are large and we never had lunch, especially since we bought a few snack and had the wonderful fruit basket in the villa. Before we visited, I requested the menus be emailed to me and the dishes will not disappoint. We also received a coupon for free rum punch and a invitation to the Manager's cocktail hour another night, so we received free rum punch both nights. There is also a cocktail hour Wednesday and Saturdays from 6-7 where the drinks are cheaper....and not to worry....they are delicious and strong. The view of the ocean and Gros Piton is wonderful. During our visit, the restaurant was never crowed. We recommend spraying your ankles with bug spray before going to dinner, as the mosquitos were prevalent on some nights. However we found they are not itchy bites like we have at home. The breakfasts were great. The fresh fruit is sooooo delicious and I missed as soon as we left, the fresh mango. I've never ever had mango so delicious and the freshly squeezed passionfruit juice is wonderful. The dinners have a theme each night and you are there to enjoy dinner and the view. The staff take time in serving the dishes and to create a relaxing atmosphere. Most nights we felt everything was well-paced, but we had one buggy night where we were there for 2 hours and made dinner less enjoyable. Sometimes we just wanted to head back to our villa to enjoy the stars!

The excursions and spa: As part of the romance package we had a trip to the Toraille waterfall and the sunset cruise. We also wanted to take the excursion that includes the trip to the rum distillery, Castries, and Pigeon Island so we could see the other part of the island. We suggest booking your excursions early on on your stay because many can not happen during the weekend and sometimes you can not get them for the day you want. We really wanted to go on the sunset cruise, but there has to be at least 4 people signed up for the cruise. There wasn't one night, so we had to wait to the next night. The sunset cruise was our favorite part of our stay, next to just hanging out at the villa. The cruise is on a sailboat and we were with 2 other couples. We scored the bow of the sailboat. The views are spectacular of the pitons and the cruise is about 2 hours. Alcoholic and non-alchohlic drinks are included and small treats. We saw flying fish, dolphins, and pilot whales. It was wonderful. The waterfall trip is 2 hours. The waterfall and gardens can be completely enjoyed in 1 hour. We had to wait some time for our shuttle to come back. Other people have mentioned that St. Lucia is on "Carribean time." This means you are there to enjoy yourself and the experience without time constraints, but it also means that your shuttle may arrive 15 or so minutes past the time you think it might. Our excursion to the northern part of the island solidified that we were so happy to have booked our stay at Stonefield in Soufriere. The crowds and developed part of the Castries and Rodney Bay is not for us. We enjoyed the personalized informative tour from our taxi driver for the day to learn about the history and people of St. Lucia, but probably would have enjoyed spending the money in other ways. The rum distillery is very informal and there is not much to see, the Castries are very busy, but Pigeon Island is beautiful. Standing at the top of the fort allow great views and the beach there has beautiful blue water and white sand. However, the restrooms and changing areas are very dirty. We were happy to arrive back at Stonefield to enjoy the privacy and quiet of our villa.

Also a part of our Romance package included an hour-long couples swedish massage and mani/pedi for two. My massage was wonderful, but my husband received more of a deep-tissue massage than swedish massage and was sore for a couple of days. The mani/pedi has room to improve as the nail polish was streaky and started to come off the same day. However, the spa has not been open long and they had their grand opening during our stay. The staff are all very nice and this is a part of the resort that is important to them to improve.

Our last day we took the shuttle to Jalousie Beach. The sand is imported white sand and the water blue. The beach is wonderful and we loved the snorkeling. Jalousie has an agreement with Stonefield that the guests get complimentary half hour snorkeling. We saw so many fish, including a couple small cuddlefish. Remember to bring an underwater camera!

We thoroughly recommend Stonefield, especially the villa Frangipani, if you are going to St. Lucia. The large, loud "all-inclusive" crowds of the Castries and Rodney Bay were not for us. We enjoyed talking with the local St. Lucians and the peaceful setting of Stonefield.

We were celebrating our honeymoon and came from another resort on the north side of the island to Stonefield. The driver (Charles) sent by stonefield was knowledgable, kind, and even stopped along the ride to take some pictures and let us stop for some local Cassava bread.

The check in: When we arrived to the Stonefield we were greeted by some delicious passionfruit juice and some warm towels. The front desk was very friendly and told us our room would be ready shortly. We waited at the restaurant and had some lunch and then were brought to our room. The process was relatively quick and easy. We even sat down with the front desk attendant and planned out all our activities for our stay. They gave us a cell phone that works on the island so you can call the front desk, housekeeping, or a driver to come pick you up anywhere. Very helpful!

The location: The location of Stonefield on the island is IDEAL. Firstly- it is located to the north side of the petit piton- so the views everywhere looked unbelievable. We were about 2-3 miles from all main attractions like the sulphur springs, sugar beach, the cocoa project. Everything was an easy (but windy) drive. Also very close to Soufriere town so you can stop and get food/drinks/souvenirs.

The room: We stayed in the Tamarind Villa. We had a partial view of the piton and a full view of the ocean. The private pool and hammock/deck area were so lovely. The pool is kept nice and cold so you don't roast in the sun. The villa itself was very private too. Inside the villa we had a very comfortable bed, a small kitchenette, and a full bathroom and large closet. There was also an outdoor shower which was amazing. The room was very clean and well air-conditioned.

The food: This is the one place where we feel the Stonefield could have improved. First, with our package we booked we got breakfast and dinner. It wasn't clear what items of the menu were included in the package and not, and sometimes we got bills and sometimes we didn't. It ended up working out in the end, but did cause a lot of confusion. The food itself was tasty, but we felt the menu was a little limited and didn't change as frequently as we had thought. Also- the breakfast service was lovely, but dinner was very slow and a little rude. We were left with empty water for a long time even though it was very hot. There were times the server was sitting at the bar while we were sweating and needed water.

The other thing to mention is the actual MANGO TREE restaurant location is currently CLOSED for renovations. No one told us that before our stay and it was actually a huge bummer. The original location had an amazing view of the piton and sunsets, while the temporary location had a partial view. Also- the temporary location has no airflow and was VERY hot. Some fans would really be helpful here. The temporary location was also at the top of the resort/hill, which meant for us climbing up a very large steep hill for every breakfast/dinner. We made it work obviously but still a disappointment.

The activities: We booked the sexy experience package which we think had a very good value for what we got. The package included a 60 min. couples massage, the mud baths at the sulphur springs, a sunset cruise, an in-room candlelight dinner, transfers to and from the airport, and breakfast/dinner. The massage was incredible. One of the best massages I have ever gotten. The mud bath was great since our driver took us past the line and got us right into the mud bath and took lots of pictures. The sunset cruise was amazing and came with lots of rum punch! We feel the package was worth the money to get these extras included!

Overall, We really enjoyed our stay at Stonefield. We both agreed that this part of the island (South) felt more uniquely St. Lucian than the north side of the island with it's greenery and views. We would love to come back to St. Lucia and the Stonefield in the future!
