This is a wonderful hotel. The location, beside the parliament buildings overlooking the harbor and a short walk to downtown, is perfect, and the amenities are superb...great food at Fathom, fantastic gym, pool, jacuzzi, steam and dry saunas, underground parking, wonderful staff. We felt more like family than guests. Crystal, Kaitlyn and Jose at the front desk are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable...love the pillows! I won't stay anywhere else when I visit Victoria again. Thank you for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable!

For those arriving as foot passengers on the MV Coho from Port Angeles, this hotel is ideally located. It's right across from the ferry. We chose a harbour view room and were happy with its location on the 5th floor. Small balcony and large windows let us feel connected to the inner harbour area. You'll find robes which are great for going down to the pool. Nice steam room and sauna as well. Comfortable beds and pillows. Having an additional sink outside the bathroom was a plus. Coffee maker, but no "real" cream. It was quiet and allowed for good sleeping. Very satisfied with our stay.

Nights stayed 4

Pros: Location. 5 minutes to everything. Rooms clean and functional. Views amazing. Staff friendly and welcoming. Comfortable beds. Digital TV. Super fast internet at 100 megs down and 60 up (cat 5). Torrenting not blocked. WiFi is spotty. Balcony.

Cons: walls are thin. Hotel was semi empty as I can tell by 3 rooms lit up at 9 pm for 4 nights. Yet it seems that everyone was packed in the same corner on the 5th floor. Why? You must know that walls are thin. Lots of wine glasses but no cork screw. Front desk brought one up. Some weird electrical issues with two power sockets. Desk lamp worked sometimes. Plugged in laptop and worked sometimes. Issue must be electrical not the lamp. Minor cons. Pool specifically stated no children between 5 and 7, apparently staff was not aware. I do not mind children but we specifically went to the pool during that time to relax in the sauna and the hot tub. 5 small kids yelling and having fun. We were not. 2 more small children came in. We left. We booked our selves spa time at Delta across the harbour instead. BTW as I am writing this I can hear a family in the room next door. Thank God they go to bed early.

Conclusion: I enjoyed my stay here besides couple of the cons. Decent rate and location. Boutique style rooms feel like your grandma's spare bedroom. Many will like it as it flows with the whole British Victoria feel.

Dear Guest, Thank you for posting a review of your stay. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the location, views and our friendly staff. While it may have seemed like the hotel was quiet, we’ve been experiencing occupancy levels around 95 percent for most of the past two weeks, which is why it seemed like your floor was so busy. As for the children you encountered in the pool area, our staff are generally quite strict in enforcing the rule around the area being child-free between 5pm and 7pm, but note that this is only Monday through Thursday. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we have no restrictions around children being in the pool area. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you’ll stay with us again the next time you’re in Victoria. Kind regards, Reid James

Stayed here for one evening in 2/2010 before heading to Vancouver for the Olympics. The hotel could not be more conveniently located on the harbor, literally across the street from the ferry. We had a spacious room with two queen beds and an adjoining single queen room, which was a little small. The room was clean, had very good beds and linens, and all of the other amenities you expect in a hotel of this level. Although it does not offer wireless internet, as mentioned by another reviewer, it does offer free, wired internet access. It has an impressively large indoor pool and fitness center. We had no view from our room but I suspect many have great views of the harbor. On the other hand, we got a great deal and each room included two vouchers for the breakfast buffet, which was outstanding. We found the staff to be universally friendly and helpful. Next time we will probably check out the Marriott, which is also well reviewed, but I can definitely see us staying here again on future trips to Victoria.

The renovations were only on the exterior and did not disrupt our stay. I suggest you call the hotel I'm sure they will be forthcoming about the impact on guests.
