Has anyone stayed here during the summer? Does it get super hot? I will be there in early July and am worried about how hot the room will get. Thank you!

We arrived hours before the check-in time but they had provided us a keycard lock to store our luggages. Prior to our arrival date, they made us aware about it already. We had a good communication with the staff with our booking and answering related questions. So far, the staff we had met are hospitable. Be warn that there is no elevator so muscle up to bring all of your belongings up. The hostel was clean, spacious and quiet. We had a comfortable bed in a private room with our own bathroom. Overall, we feel safe during our entire stay. They informed us of free activities if you want to join in. They had a tea and coffee station on the first floor. They have laundry services and a kitchen in the basement. The hostel is perfectly located, within walking distances, to our sightseeing. Upon check-out, the staff was helpful to book us a cab which arrived in 5 minutes or less to pick us up.

We had a large private room with ensuite bathroom and kingsize bed on the 2nd floor of the hostel for 3 nights. The room was very comfortable, with 2 windows, hardwood floors and was very clean and quiet. Bed was very comfy and we were happy to come back to the hostel and relax after walking miles around the charming city! The hostel kitchen seemed well equipped for travellers to use although we only used the fridge, and didn't cook a meal there. Free brewed coffee is available in the lobby all the time.

Hugo at the front desk was so friendly and helpful, recommending local microbreweries for us to try as well as interesting pockets of the city to see. His suggestions were spot-on! We really enjoyed exploring both our neighbourhood and a lot of the city, especially Saint Roch and Saint Saveur. We spent a lot of time on the Plains of Abraham as well, walking through the park, seeing the artwork outside the Musee des Beaux-Arts. Great city to visit, and the hostel was excellent for us as our base.

Masks were required and we had to provide proof of vaccination at check in. Hand sanitizer was readily available.

I am delighted to have chosen HI Quebec for my stay. Good chats, free coffee, great walking tour of the city, clean room/bathrooms, and some wonderful friendships made. The building itself is huge and really cool and has a theatre of all things!

Extra special shoutout to my fellow ex-Surreyite Simon (general manager) , one of the kindest people I have ever met, who gave me my very own tour of the city completely free. Loved hearing about your rather eclectic career so far. Don't go letting that violin gather dust - I will be back to check :P

Few comments - wifi can be a bit hit + miss in some rooms and the beds are pretty narrow. But maybe I'm just a bit spoilt on the latter..

I had a very nice room with view to the mountains.
Bathroom / showers very clean and new. The staff makes you really feel welcome. Close to all amenities like restaurants, groceries, pubs and of course wonderful Vieux Québec. And so affordable!

A gigantic hostel sitting right in the middle of Old Town granting you easy access by foot to most of the tourist spots. I doubt it ever becomes deserted, considering that I was there during winter and people were crawling. They have a lot of common areas that you can fully use before checking in and after checking out and their kitchen is fully equipped, next to a very large dining hall which also has a bar. Watch out for the happy hour and secure your pitcher of IPA before it's over!

There were a lot of toilets so this wasn't really a problem but the toilet nearest to my room got busted and, while everywhere else was cleaned everyday, it took more than a day for the cleaning staff to purge what was left behind by the person who last used that toilet.

Questions & answers about the rooms

Jun. 2016 |
It gets warm, yes. They have fans. Some rooms are small (i.e. four persons to a room), some rooms are large (i.e. twelve persons to a room). The larger rooms may get very warm due to people breathing within. Just around the corner (because you're staying in old Quebec) are many restaurants and shops. There is plenty of shade within old Quebec and lots of cold beverages throughout. -happy hunting! (Hope this helps).

Good day, sorry for the delay, am not used to this kind of practice... Yes we do have 6 & 8 female or male dorms, sometimes, not often we have mixed dorm, but people know before booking. If you are with your daughter it is ok is you will stay in the same dorm. If not you have to be 18 yrs old to sleep alone (without parents) in a dorm.
