This small hotel is situated about three blocks from the central square in Matera and the Sassi and has good free parking on the property. We suggest viewing it on google maps since the driveway does not look like the entrance but there is a small sign and it is directly next to the post office. Our room was modern and immaculate Very nice modern bathroom. Coffee and tea and snacks are always available in the hall. Breakfast is by voucher at a cafe almost next door...coffee, juice and croissant. The hosts were very helpful with recommendations for sightseeing and a great restaurant. The location enabled us to return for a short rest in the hot afternoon and then return for the evening into the town for amazing views of the illuminated Sassi.

Il Viaggiatori is well positioned within easy walking distance to the town centre and the Sassi. Arriving in Matera by car it was important that we had secure off-street parking, which Il Viaggiatori provided on request at the time of booking.

The area is safe and quiet The room we had was huge as was the bathroom, both of which were impeccably clean and new. Comfortable beds, great a/c and wi-fi Breakfast was at a cafe only steps from Il Viaggiatori

We were warmly welcomed by Filomena who had ready for us maps of the area, clear directions to the Sassi etc and great recommendations for local restaurants.
A small common area provided all guests with coffee, tea, water, fresh fruit, cookies and cakes 24/7. No sooner had we checked in that Filomena had brought us a plate of fresh fruit.
Although we only stayed one night we were fare-welled like family.

This is a great find and the little extras make the stay, albeit too short, even more memorable
Grazie mille e complimenti Filomena!

This hotel consists of only five or six rooms which were kept immaculate. Because there are so few rooms you felt very safe and secure here. When you first arrive, there is a telephone number on the window which you have to call and they will come down and let you in. We came on an extremely hot day, 43 degrees, and when the owner saw us, she told her husband to go get us and our friends a big bowl of fresh figs which was wonderful. The room was very clean, good modern shower, and a fully stocked fridge, flat screen tv and a very big comfy bed. They had a coffee machine which used pods that are in your room in the hallway. Also there was a big basket of fresh and individually wrapped pastries and cookies that are there for you at any time.
The location is perfect, one minute from a big morning fruit market where you can get fruit and nuts for your room, also then another minute to the big town square where shops and restaurants are located and then about six minutes to the old town.
The owners are wonderful people and when we left they gave us a jar of her homemade jam which was amazing. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and actually did to my brother in law and his girlfriend who said they loved the place!

Room Tip: All the rooms would be good. We faced the parking lot and it was very quiet for sleeping.

Easy to find using google maps. This is a super clean room, in a good location (very short walk to sassi area - approx 2mins), free parking, with a helpful host - this place is perfect for a pitstop hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights & were so happy that we had chosen this place to stay. The room was immaculately clean, the shower impressive & the staff were so friendly & helpful. It is perfectly situated for exploring Matera. We would highly recommend Il Viaggiatori.
