Stayed at the Rosenalp for a wonderful 7 days on my own (solo male). Was made very welcome and shown around the hotel and spa on arrival and explained the Schroth Cure I had signed up for.
First evening I was shown to a table and explained this was my table for the week. Unfortunately shared with a loved up German couple who spoke no English and I, not speaking any German, all exchanged panicked glances. I requested a solo table and after a movie scene from Ratatouille about "what's new", I got shown to another table on my own. Other solo people I think had also requested the same. There were a few of us.
The food I have to say was tasty and imaginiative and served in a seperate restaurant to those not on a deto/weight loss or restricted diet. I never felt too hungry and the fruit herbal tea bar was available to stave off any cravings.
First morning was a full checkup from the docs with bloods taken and a consultation on any health problems. Then an hour with the physiotherapist. Not having anything to discuss I had an hour massage- bliss.
The rooms are modern and clean with beautiful views over the town or hills.
The spa is massive with an indoor pool extending to the outside. Lovely and warm every time and never crowded and no screaming kids.
Plenty of outdoor loungers and tables if you get there in the sunny weather.
Treatments were professional and never rushed.
Location is on the edge of Oberstaufen and a few minutes walk to the centre and also to the start of some amazing but gentle 5 to 10km hill walks.
As a solo traveller sometimes you feel awkward in a hotel full of couples and families. This is not the case at the Rosenalp. If you want to converse with people you can. Or if you are happy to sit with a book and a glass of wine and not speak to anyone then you'll not be alone.
All the staff spoke English which was a plus.
Can't recommend the Rosenalp enough.
Just have to put on some weight and use this as an excuse to go back and lose it.
I spent 2 days by myself in this wonderful place. Friendly staff, beautiful pool and sauna area, ca. 10 minutes walk to town / train station.
especially the included activities, such as hiking, water gym etc. are very well appreciated.
Stayed here for 5 nights - wasn't quite sure what it was going to be like as I couldn’t find many reviews anywhere. It's an Interesting place - I assumed it was going to be particular type of people people as it has this a lot of special diet and fitness programmes. The room we had was very nice we got an upgrade as the room we had booked wasn't ready. The rate seems expensive about €180 per night. Lovely area for touring around but you probably would need a car. There is a rollerbahn about 10 minutes drive away - its ok but there is one about 30 minutes away which
is unreal - make sure you get to it. It’s the longest in Germany and I would be surprised if its not the biggest in the world.
Anyway back to the hotel nice indoor and outdoor pool - there not huge but there an ok size. 3 different saunas / steam rooms - you have to enter these naked! I took a day to get used to this but then you quickly do - apparently all over Southern Germany this is
the norm - just seems to be the South though? Loads of massage therapies and all that - we didn't try these and they looked expensive. Breakfast was nice good choice of stuff. All staff are very friendly and the owner I cant remember her name shook our
hands on leaving and thanked us for staying and gave us a each a pot of honey - a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant one night - it was nice but I had expected something exceptional as it is a 4.5 star hotel! Nice bar area and loads of room around the hotel for just relaxing either indoors by the bar or common areas upstairs or else out by the
pool or sun loungers. The room I was in although very modern and I would say brand new did not have either A/C or WiFi. Free on site parking during summer months. We would spend maybe 2/3 hours a day between the pools/Jacuzzi and saunas and then head out for the day. Some days we also just chilled in the games room or the
outdoor pool for the day. We travelled as a couple - there seems to be lots of single people who go their on their own for a break too and the rates seem accommodating to people on their own i.e. a single room was around about half the price of a double - normally there is a price diff for this. Mostly Germans stay here and very little literature is in English but a number of staff have near perfect English. A little more English literature around the place would be good and possibly a brochure explaining the Oberstaufen card would also be good.
We stayed in this hotel with my wife 16 days in July 2007. We did the Schrothkur - the original Dr. Schrothkur treatment that you can find a lot about it. The idea was to combine the vacation with the medical necessity to loose weight, shape up and clean the body and soul. It is not a place for young people and the hotel is patronized mainly by Germans and Austrians looking for a health and wellness holidays.
Oberstaufen is the official place where the Dr. Schroth treatments are given and there is a big number of houses of all types that offer that. See at www.oberstaufen.de for the official site of the town that gives more detail.
I made a thorough research and the choice was the Rosenalp as a clear quality for money winner. After arriving to Oberstaufen I checked the other candidates and I saw that that I made the best choice.
This is a family hotel and Mr. Schaedler, the manager and owner as well as the rest of the staff are extremely helpful and efficient. We took a south facing double (the most expensive one) room and we were please with everything. we had a separate bath and toilet , walk in closed, sitting area, fast internet and all that on almost 45 square meters. they have from small singles to 75 sqm apartments.
The hotel is run at a 5 star level although it is only "4 Superior". There is a huge wellness area with saunas, indoor and outdoor pools, baths, hamam etc. In house doctor prescribes the treatments if you want. there is a in house sports trainer that offers an ongoing program from early morning till after lunch including Nordic walking, water gymnastics, gym, guided tours and more.
You can play golf, go cycling or just lay in the sun next to the pool.
Actually there was no need to leave the hotel for the whole 2 weeks.
