We, group of 6 people checked in 31 dec night to enjoy our new year eve, resort was far away fro the city and our driver manage to reach there and he left for the day.
The view from the room was very good but all our happiness end that point, no water available in one toilet later there was flood after technician comes.
Most horrible was attitude of staffs and there is no food (it was too expensive too)available after 8.30, they closed the kitchens after 8.00 pm ( remember it’s new year day and almost 90% rooms are occupied) we could see other guests also coming to kitchen and begging for any food. No option to go outside and get some becoz no vehicles/cabs available
Last option was to talk to hotel manager Ugyen, as he committed to be there in 20 mints and resolved everything but he wasn’t and start abusing when he called up after 40 mins. We complained make my trip as well but no use at all, Some how we manage that night and never ever recommended this hotel
Hotel is a bit far from thimpu market as it's on hilltop, but worth once u see view from room n feel fresh air .Manager Krishna took personal care of us as the present management was going to chng .Food was gud.Rooms r spacious n clean .
We recently stayed at Thori Resort then later re-visited for 4 more nights it was such a good place to stay. It was wonderfully quiet (most hotels in Thimphu are plagued by noisy street dogs). The managers and staff were charming, friendly and extremely helpful. The room was very spacious, and there was an excellent outdoor seating area. The food was very good and inexpensive. The one drawback is the last bit of road is rough, and we had trouble getting a taxi to come up one morning (during Diwala festival). The views up and down the valley are breathtaking especially to the Buddha opposite. We would happily go back if in Thimphu. The 'introductory rate' made it excellent value.
If I are looking for excellent service, view, people food and experience this is the place to go. Ensure that u have a vehicle for your self to travel to this place. It has an beautiful view of the Buddha statue and the city below! Select a room facing the Buddha statue. Have fun.
Thori Resort - a very misleading name. It gives the impression of a resort wherein it actually is more of a homestay. The only positive to the property is the scenic location. It is outside of thimpu by a good approx 5 km so no easy to and fro to restaurants or markets, once you reach here in the evening, you have to stay put over here. It does offer a view of the city and landscape but one could do this even on a sightseeing trip. The entire place is managed by a single lady who of course believes that the guests should not be demanding and clean up portions of the room by themselves than complain. In short, the service is absolutely shoddy, The sheets were stained, cups not washed, earlier guests litter in bathroom not cleared including the used soap. Inspite of booking a deluxe room, i have faced issues of no tea sachets, etc. The shoddiness was to such an extent that one gets tired complaining after some time. The icing on the cake is that the place has no telephones / EPABX systems so you cant call for room service. You have to either call her through your mobile or go down in the isolated building hunting for someone.
The place is perpetually in darkness with the lights switched off.
The food is just extremely terrible. When we complained they gave us explanation that they didnt have supplies. When asked for dessert after dinner we were served nine grapes, yes exactly nine between two people. We had no option but to sleep hungry since the place is so isolated that you cant go out to eat.
And didnt understand what it was with the incessant dog barking from early 4 am onwards. Although they state free wifi, it does not work. Better options available in the city
