Very nice hotel in walking distance from main street, only 5 minutes.
Clean and quiet rooms. Drinking water dispenser in the room.
We were warm welcomed by the Owner Rachel and her friendly team. She also offered us a ride on her car to town.
We recommend this hotel for all travelers.
We checked in early in morning and they stored our luggage until the room was ready. We had two stays here, three nights total. Both rooms on ground level toward the street. We did not experience any noise, but the closer rooms to the desk have an open common area that could be noisy. But also a close place just to sit and read or relax. Staff was friendly, made us feel at home. My husband had an ankle swell and the hotel staff emailed and set us a appointment to see someone. Breakfast was very good, and they told us to act "like it was our own home, and if we wanted more of anything to ask". Had options of fruit, juices, and various hot meals. More if you wanted. Close waking distance to the main pier, probably 4 blocks away, and the road along the water maybe another 3 or 4. Safe town, safe area. Loved the hotel and staff!
The minute you walk through the gate, you feel welcomed. The staff were friendly, helpful, and fun. The room was nice. Clean and comfortable. There was a desk and wifi. Your choice of open windows or air conditioning. They have a lovely courtyard with seating and hammocks, also outdoor (private) showers and beach towels. They are also very ecologically conscious. As others have mentioned, the breakfast is quite good and cooked when you sit down. It's about a 10 minute walk to the harbor, but that was good - we got a little leg stretch and I enjoyed staying more embedded in the town, not so much surrounded by only tourists. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to get back to the Galapagos Islands.
My husband and I enjoyed our 8-day stay at Isla Azul during Christmas time and highly recommend it. The location is convenient. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the center of the island.
We enjoyed the breakfast a lot, which was served (not buffet style). Every day, the staff explained to us what food it was. Mostly they were local food, which was great. We like to experience local stuff as much as possible. We loved the soursop drink a lot and the staff was so nice to let us even try the soursop fruit itself.
As many reviewers mentioned already, the best part of the hotel is its staff. Not only they are friendly (sincerely ask us how our days were), they also went out of their way to make the stay comfortable for us. They even got us a fridge when I sorta asked.
Some of the old reviewers mentioned the lack of AC, which wasn’t the case for us. Our room had a functional AC and we found it useful during the day. It wasn’t necessary at nights.
The only imperfect part is the wifi connection. With that said, we found out that wifi wasn’t good in general on the island. Guess we should spend more time visiting islands not staring at our phones 😉
If we ever visit Galapagos again (which we would love to), will definitely stay at Isla Azul again.
The staff was great! So friendly and helpful! It’s called a hostel, but don’t let that deter you. It’s really more like a B & B. Breakfast was good, & they were happy to accommodate my vegetarian/ egg free diet. The lobby area has hammocks and couches, and the WiFi was good. We stayed 2 separate times. The 1st time we were on the 3rd floor- lots of stairs. The view wasn’t quite worth it to us, so when we stayed the second time we opted for a 1st floor room. It had a huge bed & was very quiet, despite facing the street. There are more “luxury” hotels on Santa Cruz, but Isla Azul was great for us- no frills, but everything we needed. They had jugs of filtered water in each room too - very convenient for filling your water bottles before heading out each day.
