After a flight, this is the place to be to relax and enjoy your first (or last) night in Johannesburg / South Africa.
Staff is very friendly, rooms are comfortable and it just feels like coming home. Ideal for families with kids because of the big garden and swimming pool.
The Safari Club is set in a beautiful, landscaped gardens with a pool, surrounded by beautifully appointed and very comfortable en suite rooms situated very close to the airport where they do complimentary collections and returns. The main hotel has a lovely lounge to relax in, contemporary dining room to dine in and a cosy bar to unwind in. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I left my charger in the room and they rushed it to me at the airport before I caught my flight. I can highly, highly recommend this hotel for an overnight stay between onward connections or more importantly even for a few days to relax and explore Johannesburg.
We enjoyed our 2 visits to this hotel. Located in an industrial zone, it”s a time capsule. Nice courtyard. Great bar on the honor system. Old world feel. The pool is small and not heated. The food prepared onsite is worth eating.
After an 11 hour flight from UK we were tired and hoping that our first hotel would live up to the wonderful reviews. Just a ten minute taxi ride from OR Tambo, the Safari Club met all of our requirements - and more. Despite being set back from the main road you hardly hear the traffic. It is set in beautiful surroundings and Al and Josie are the most hospitable hosts. Our room was clean, spacious and had a very comfortable bed. There is an honesty bar if a barman is not around and the costs are very reasonable. The pool area in a lovely garden is an oasis of calm. We ate in on both nights that we were there and the food was very good. I didn't realise that the Safari Club offered a shuttle to and from the airport (my mistake) but it is just another example of attention to detail. I'd definitely stay here again if I was in Jo'burg.
My husband and I stayed here twice, once on the way from Cape Town to Botswana and then when we returned to fly home to Australia. I am so glad I found this place because you WILL NOT find a better stopover in this huge city. Why stay in an ordinary dreary hotel when the Safari Club offers so much from fabulous hosts, Al and Josie MacDougall to the friendliest staff and a home away from home atmosphere. About 10 minutes from OR Tambo airport, the hotel is set in manicured grounds where you can enjoy a drink around the plunge pool or else go to the honesty bar - a great and welcoming spot. Dinner here is excellent and so well priced (as is everything else including the nightly rate!) and the transfer to and from the airport is faultless. Please don't book anywhere else because you will love it here!
