I went to Mountain Trek for the second time a few weeks ago. The second time was just as great as the first time. For those who are seeking a challenging but fun fitness vacation which will help rejuvenate your body, this is the place for you! The food is very good, albeit not a ton of it, but generally, you aren't hungry and don't miss the extra food. The staff is excellent and attentive and cater to each individual's fitness level. The day begins a protein smoothie and yoga/stretch class and then breakfast a short health seminar and then on to a day of hiking. The hiking is the best part. The hills will challenge you but in a good way. The group is divided into fitness levels so no one feels that they are holding someone else back. You hike about 4 hours a day and then return to the lodge for spa time and dinner and another fitness class. There is no television but wireless is available for those who need it and bring their electronic device. This is better than one place I went where you had to completely disconnect, which was too stressful for me!

Every person gets their own room. The rooms are not fancy but nice enough. You are not in your room very much during the day.

At the end of the week, you will feel proud of your accomplishment and will likely have enjoyed meeting new friends and seeing beautiful surrounding! The location is spectacular!

I will definitely go back again.

Wall after wall of excuses and profound physical exhaustion hit me on the trails. There were many times that I thought about escaping, taking the next flight out or spending the day in my room, reading a book. But I knew that I would discover what I was made of here and I didn’t want to give up. When you stop and feel your body recovering and realize that the wall is a psychological one, you dig deep and find a way to keep going.

Our last hike was nearly five hours long and I really thought it would break me. But as I realized we were near the trail head where we started I powered through the fatigue, walking tall and strong. I have NEVER been more proud of myself. And that, my friend, is something everyone needs to experience. We are capable of so much more than we realize.

Before I attended Mountain Trek's fitness program I was working out every day with my Bowflex revolution and Bowflex Treadclimber. As a Registered Nurse I felt I was conscious about my food choices. Struggling to lose 10lbs and just not feeling great about my body image. I read up on Mountain Trek Fitness Resort and spoke to a fellow co-worker who attended their program. I was concerned about going as I am not athletic at all, and had never hiked before in my life. I purchased all the items recommended on their check list and headed out to Ainsworth, British Columbia.

I was a little overwhelmed at first. I had no idea that flying into Castlegar would be difficult. I learnt very fast that Castlegar is also known as "Cancel-gar". I would suggest that if you are booking a trip to Mountain Trek be aware of the Castlegar's airport reputation and have a back-up plan, in case your flight is cancelled. I arrived a day late due to flight cancellations. The transport complications were worth every minute after arriving to this beautiful, breathtaking resort. I was welcomed in and enjoyed my first delicious meal upon arriving. Following my meal I had to get orientated quickly and started my strength training with the rest of the group.

The days go quickly at Mountain Trek because they are all highly structured and planned. You are provided with an outline of the entire week. My first couple days I thought to myself I'm not sure this program is for me. As the days progressed and my body started changing so did my emotions. We were taught about metabolism, nutrition, fitness, detoxification, sleep, stress management and goal setting. The classes took place in a comfortable setting and the lessons were very interesting and comprehendible. Questions and participation were invited at all times.

Hiking in the Kootenay mountains was enchanting. It was mystical and surreal. I seen nature at it's finest. Some areas looked like they belonged in a fairy tale. The team guides are knowledgable and give historical insight while hiking through their beautiful trails. Be prepared to work hard the entire time you are at Mountain Trek, but don't forget it will be worth the sweat! They have a quote on a wood block in the gym that states "Sweat is fat crying". I have learned to love that statement. This becomes the truth at Mountain Trek, especially on your last day when you weigh out and see the results. It truly is an accomplishment. The entire program is inspirational as well as the staff.
I felt supported not only by the staff, but from the other guests. We were an excellent group of guests that encouraged each other throughout the week.

The entire Mountain Trek Team is approachable and they want you to excel! They find satisfaction in seeing the transformation and helping the group succeed on their journey. Staffing includes kitchen, team guides on the hikes, yoga instructors, massage therapists, dieticians, kinesiologists, workout instructors, housekeeping, and many more all working extremely hard to provide you the best experience possible. The food is delectable and a great opportunity to open your pallet. It consists of the best organic, free range and local foods. If you enjoy a meal, that isn't listed in the program guide, the kitchen staff have a list and that you can sign up on and they will provide you with the recipes via email.

Accommodations are clean, comfortable and relaxing. Daily laundry services are offered. There is multiple options provided for daily detoxing including Ainsworth Hot Springs, a hot tub, steam room, dry sauna and infrared sauna. The detox at this resort even include using electronic devices. Emails, texting and phone calls are limited to guests rooms. This was a awesome concept to detox from all the negative media in the news, the daily emails that pile up, and the pressures of having to constantly answer somebody. Having said that, cell phones were allowed only for picture taking in the common areas and on hikes.

If you are contemplating whether to book with Mountain Trek Fitness Resort or not, I would highly recommend it. If lifestyle change and gaining self confidence is in your thoughts you need to come experience this program. If you don't learn anything during your stay you probably have a negative attitude and are not willing to change. I have heard so many people complain about the cost of this program, but they don't understand why until you go through the Mountain Trek journey. It truly is a personalized and intimate atmosphere with having a smaller group to teach. It's 100% worth the money when you realize the health benefits of your future. Too many people will spend money on other pointless objects that have no affect in their life. I became aware of what I was doing wrong in my exercising and eating habits. I came home full of knowledge and have changed my life for the better. I will never forget the motto "You are what you absorb". It's a powerful statement. I thank Mountain Trek for all the inspirational and motivational coaching I have received. Once I get past my wedding next summer, I'm saving my pennies to come back!

If you are looking for a reset this is it! I am so grateful to each person on the Mountain Trek team for this amazing week. The program's tagline is a health reset retreat program and that is definitely what you get! I honestly would not have known that the diet is intentionally calorically restrictive unless they told us. Each meal is so graciously prepared with the freshest ingredients and the richest flavours. It was the first time a program showed me that it worked by being exposed to it and feeling energized and not at all hungry all week long.

The days start with a gentle yoga practice which helps your body feel ready for the day. From there you are off to breakfast and a daily overview. The lectures in the morning or afternoon were so informative, and made even better by both Kirk and Katy's engaging presentation skills. The hikes were beautiful, and breaking up the group helps ensure that there is a pace for everyone. Forest bathing mid week was a lovely treat, as was a short shopping excursion at Crawford Bay. The evenings were a delicious treat between restorative yoga, sound bathing and massages you were so relaxed and ready for a good night sleep.

The only drawbacks I would mention is that the spa is co-ed, so if for modesty or other reason you are uncomfortable of sharing the space in that way you will not get to experience those amenities. Also the bedroom doors only lock from the inside, and the house itself only gets locked at night. I had no issues with theft or anything of that sort, it was just an adjustment and something I was not necessarily expecting. The last note I would mention is that even though the menu is alcohol free, alcohol does form part of some of the sauces. As such if that is a restriction you have made sure you clearly let the team know about that.

Overall I would highly recommend the program. Each staff member is so kind and helpful and you will leave refreshed and equipped with great health habits that will carry you well beyond your stay.

Mountain Trek is the best gift I've ever given myself. I've done the program twice - once for one week, once for two full weeks. I will go back for the third time in the fall. There is simply no better place to clear the cobwebs and reconnect with the real you. It's not just a spa or a luxury retreat or a fitness program - it's a place to reset, learn, grow, heal and have fun in a breathtaking setting, free and clear of daily distractions. Thanks to an exceptionally talented, kind staff and the array of resources available to support you, you leave feeling rejuvenated and armed with practical tools to tackle life AND live it. Yes, it's a splurge and yes, it's a bit of a hike to get to (pun intended), but how much is your future worth? MT reminds you that you deserve to invest in yourself and why 'putting the oxygen mask on first' makes you a better family member, employee, employer, friend, etc. back home. Please feel free to message me with questions or if you are on the fence.

A few specific notes:
- *MT attracts a wide range of guests, men and woman, of all ages, with completely different, individual goals.* My last group had two couples, two single retirees, a pregnant woman, a colon cancer survivor, someone mourning the loss of a spouse, former athletes, several solo travelers who came w/o their significant others or kids, and a bunch of other out-of-shape professionals hoping to break habits and shed a few pounds. The one thing trekkers have in common is the desire detox from the stress of daily life and to support each other on that journey. I leave each trip with a few new friends.
- *No expertise or technical skills required.* Many people come to MT never having hiked or used hiking poles before. You don't need to bring any equipment other than the right shoes. They provide everything else and teach you what you need to know.
- *Huge premium on safety.* There are four groups to accommodate a variety of fitness levels, each with its own professional guide. No hiker is left behind. No hiker is out of the sight of a guide at any time.
- *The food is delicious, and they accommodate all dietary needs.* They also generously share any and all recipes on request.
- Onsite infrared sauna, steam room, hot tub, cold plunge and 24-hr gym. The local hot springs are just down the hill and a cool cultural experience.
- In addition to the included massages, there are numerous services available at additional cost to support your goals: acupuncture, cranial sacral work, private nutrition sessions, private counseling, private yoga sessions, naturopathic/food sensitivity testing, etc. I'd put some of the services in the 'outstanding' category on par with or superior to anything you can get in NYC.
- *Go to the classes.* You may think you've heard it all until you sit through one of Kirkland's talks. I have learned so much both in class and on the trail.
- Save up and make the commitment to go to MT. You are worth it!
