Our group of eight stayed at Tailwind in February 2016 for a six-day yin/yang yoga retreat, and I'm already making reservations for 2017. The setting is wonderful -- lush and rustic enough to help your nervous system quickly go "off-grid;" but with enough amenities to make you feel comfortable and cared for. We loved the thoughtfulness that went into the design of both private and common spaces, the use of natural, local materials married with a beautiful and simple artistic sensibility. You can hear the ocean from anywhere on the property (the trees block the view from all but a few places) and it's a 20 minute walk through jungle paths to a sweet beach where you can cover yourself in mud bath and lay down like a lazy iguana until it dries off. (This is more of a dipping beach -- the waves and tide are a force to be reckoned with; there are other beaches a bit further away where swimming is possible.) Our group was not particularly adventurous, but in good physical shape which you need to be to get around the property's trails and steep stairs. We did go kayaking/paddleboarding one morning, and took a beautiful five-mile loop hike through jungle roads another. And we loved being indulgent: one afternoon we brought in two masseuses who worked on us in pairs on the yoga platform (divine), and afternoons often found us lounging in hammocks and reading novels while dipping our feet in the cooling pool. We did go to San Pancho for a tour of EntreAmigos, a gorgeous educational/environmental NGO in town that we were WOW'd by; next year, we'll make it an afternoon volunteer option. And several of us went shopping in nearby San Pancho (a quaint town full of North American retirees) and the busier Sayulita. Tamara was an amazing host and we spent our last night on the roof of her house above the canopy watching the sun set over the Pacific. And we loved Nectar Health Foods -- totally outdid expectations Flor and Alex provided two delicious and superfoods-full meals a day that were authentically Mexican with a raw/vegan/life affirming twist. Rooms range from enclosed with kitchenettes and full bathrooms to more "glamping" style tents with king beds, electricity, small fridge and burners, outdoor showers (hot!) and composting toilets -- so choose according to temperament. As a retreat leader who hadn't been to Tailwind previously, I was delighted that getting there from the PVR airport takes about an hour and is straightforward. While this might not be the right setting for everyone (it's not a resort and I can't imagine anyone with mobility issues or fear of bugs doing ok here), it's perfect for those of us who live in urban settings and need to detox and unwind and feel nurtured by the natural environment. I plan on bringing more groups here in the future, and continuing to explore the jungle and the coast! Thank you to the Jacobi family for making us feel like part of the family!

The jungle lodge is beautiful! Such a peaceful place. We stayed in Casita Pumita which was ideal for two couples (or a family of 4 or 5). The kitchen was great for fixing simple meals and the outdoor eating area (and rooftop deck!) were absolutely perfect for evenings eating ceviche, drinking margaritas, and pondering the meaning of life by candlelight. Tamara, Judy, and el Tigre were the most wonderful hosts you could ask for and we spent many hours with them kayaking, paddleboarding, doing yoga, hanging out on the beach, and dancing in the streets for New Years. The five mile "jungle loop" became our daily run and place of solace as it offered hidden beaches, gorgeous ridge-top vistas, fresh avocados and limes, strange ruins, and lots of stories about the history of the area. The beach is a five minute walk down a primitive dirt path and town is an hours hilly walk away. We didn't have a car, so we walked to town and back every day, carting groceries in our backpacks. Worked great for us, but maybe not ideal for everyone (car rentals from Puerta Vallarta are pretty cheap). Note that the pool is quite small and great for a cooling off dip, but not much else. Not that you need it with the ocean so close. And we would definitely recommend taking guided kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding trips with the Tailwind folks (plus you get to see some of the surrounding towns that you likely wouldn't otherwise experience). Diva Tours picked us up from the airport in PV and delivered us directly to the Lodge for $160 for two couples, round trip (I think you could probably negotiate for a bit cheaper). We stayed in town (San Pancho) for our last two nights (Tailwind was booked and we reserved late) and while the convenience was nice, we really missed the peace of the jungle. Overall Tailwind was an awesome place to stay and the Jacobi family is phenomenal. Highly recommended.

I spent a week at Tailwind in February for a retreat. I absolutely loved it here! I stayed in the Palapa Tigre which has an amazing patio overlooking the trees, swimming pool and the ocean. There is a full size fridge, kitchen, bbq and dining table, all outdoors! The bedroom is mainly enclosed with two large closets.
Tamara, Judy & Tigre were extremely welcoming and very willing to help in any way. They offered hiking tours, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. A friend of mine did the kayak tour and was very happy with it.
The beach is about a 10 minute hike and completely beautiful. It is fairly private, shared only with a few other lodges.
I would recommend renting a car to drive into some of the local towns, San Pancho, Sayulita and Punta Mita were the ones we went to often. They all have great beaches and local food to enjoy.
I'm hoping to return next year!

We are a family of four (2 boys, ages 7 and 4) and we stayed at Tailwind for 3 nights. It is, simply put, one of the most beautiful spots we have ever seen. We stayed in Palapa Tigre and Gecko, and loved all of the outside time that these accommodations allowed for - cooking, eating and relaxing outside was amazing. The boys loved the little pool, the hikes through the jungle to the most beautiful beaches, and family yoga with Jungle Judi! Tam, Judi, Tiger and Walter (not to mention the dogs Coco and Paris), are the most open, generous, caring and fun group of people, and made sure that we had everything we needed and more. We can't wait to plan our next trip!

The word is out already about San Pancho, but at least this small eco-resort is still off the beaten path. We first read about this place at: http://www.discovernayarit.com/news/news-tailwind.html, and were interested in it because of the setting. It is about 2 miles up from the town in a secluded area (except for the million dollar estates nearby) that you can still enjoy the tranquility and just relax at this jungle gem.

We stayed in one of the palapa rooms with an open air shower that made the whole jungle experience muy exotico. They also had platforms with luxury camping tents like those you see on high end safaris and they are finishing construction on a bigger house for rent. Our room was very clean with a small table, closet and two chairs along with a queen bed covered by a mosquito net. The sounds from the surf at night put me out cold after a long day of beach lounging, book reading, and margarita drinking. We did use the small dipping pool to cool off but preferred to drive to nearby beaches that our host told us about. There are 3 great beaches within walking distance but it is better to drive and avoid the uphill climb.

The owners were great to us and we were sorry to not have more time for one of their hiking or kayaking tours. We were lucky enough to enjoy their dinner hospitality one night, but they are too busy now that they are discontinuing that. No worries for us, next time we'll rent out one of their houses on the property and drive in with supplies to stay put for a week. If you do venture into town there is great food for all types of budgets and ambiance.
