This was the second ecolodge we stayed at in Cayo District during our trip. Very glad we experienced the Mountain Pine Ridge versus the area near San Ignacio -- it's a totally different view and vibe. Our waterfall view suite was spacious and well-appointed, with toiletries, robes, slippers, fresh water, bug spray, a safe, and a flashlight (although it didn't work). We had a lovely view of the Five Sisters Waterfall, a toucan nest 50 feet from our balcony, and a hummingbird flyway right through our balcony area! Wi-fi is feeble in the rooms but excellent in the main building. Plenty of outlets. Meals were good, especially the free continental breakfast and the pasta with aribiata sauce. The area by the waterfall is just lovely. Be sure to alot some time to just relaxing there. Wish we had had an extra day to just chill there. The tram operates from 8-5:00, so those who are out of shape need not worry. We booked the Caracol/Rio Frio Cave/On Rio Pools through Gaia and were very happy with Rudy, our guide, and the itinerary. The chicken curry salad and prosecco are top notch to order for lunch! We also booked a driver through Gaia to take us to Belize International Airport with a stop at the Belize Zoo. Highly recommend it! The lodge is quite remote, so don't expect to walk to any spots.

It lived up to the reviews - the setting is gorgeous, the staff is so friendly, and we had an amazing time at Gaia. We were there for 4 days/4 nights, and that felt like a good amount, but we also would have been happy to stay longer.

Coming into the trip, we were concerned about bugs, drinking water, and our room being too hot, and none of them ended up being a problem. We were at Gaia and then Matachica, and drinking the water from both caused us no issues. In terms of the heat, there was plenty of air circulation with fans to cool our room at night. And, presumably because it was the dry season, we had almost no bug bites during our time at Gaia. Bug spray is also provided (though we didn't need it).

We did two tours while we were there - the ATM cave and Caracol. We highly recommend both. ATM was a one of a kind experience where you swim into the cave and then wade through water, along with some climbing and crawling, to get to a back area where you can see Mayan artifacts. If you have water shoes, bring them for this trip (though the people at Gaia will also help you dry off your shoes if you use them).

Isael was our guide at Caracol, and he was so knowledgeable. We learned a lot, along with getting to see the beautiful views from the top of the main structure at Caracol. Isael also knows a ton about the local birds, and it was interesting to learn about them during our trip as well. He was all-around an awesome guide.

The rest of the staff was fantastic as well - Freddy was our server for most meals, and his energy is infectious. Kobi, Hector, and the other front desk staff were super helpful answering our questions. And whatever you do, don't miss the magic show from Chris (security guard). We weren't sure about it, but he blew us away! Coco, Gaia's dog, is also a sweetheart.

We don't have any minuses about Gaia, and would happily go back.

We just returned from 3 days at Gaia Riverlodge, and I have to say, it was an excellent experience. We live in Belize on the beach in Placencia, and try to getaway to the San Ignacio area as "vacation". staying at different jungle resorts each time. We have stayed at many others, and finally choose Gaia.
From the moment we arrived, it was a first class experience, from check in, to our beautiful river view room (River). The restaurant / bar was top notch ! The special lobster / steak Valentines Dinner, accompanied by a live violinist was one of my best experiences worldwide !
The entire staff were excellent and helpful, and friendly, always looking out for us.
Our "morning room service coffee lady" was a great way to start our day, what a smile.
My Award for Best Service Provider goes to Freddie in the restaurant, what a great member of the staff.
We will return :)

My husband and I started our honeymoon here at Gaia — the best decision we could've made. Planning our visit with them was a breeze (SO many excursions to choose from, and Geo helped narrow it down for us). The moment you step onto the property, you know you'll be well cared for. We spent 4 days there and while that did feel like plenty, we were sad to leave the gorgeous views, endless activities, amazing staff and unreal food. Truly a 5/5 experience!

THE PROPERTY: Absolutely gorgeous; photos can't do it justice. Our first few days were a bit chilly and overcast and it was STILL stunning. Definitely has the lodge feeling, where it's very easy to get around (it's not a huge property) but there's always a nice spot to chill out or explore. The waterfall is very easy to get down to and well worth the trek at least 1x a day. Worth noting they also have nice bathroom facilities at the bottom by the falls! An unexpected comfort.

THE ROOMS: So comfortable. More so than we expected, even. The bed and pillow feel luxurious. Shower is quite large. Everything felt really clean, really comfortable. We were shocked that the bug situation wasn't worse; we barely noticed the bugs at all while there (we were there in Feb. for reference). The room is well equipped with towels, bug spray, shower needs, robes, etc.

THE SERVICE: Truly impeccable. Every single person there makes an effort to learn your name and preferences. They're helpful and kind at every turn, making it easy to feel at home immediately. We have to give a shoutout to Rick and Greg for easy transport-turned-Belizean-tour; Calbert for taking us on multiple excursions and teaching us so much along the way; Lucy and Freddy for amazing dining service daily; Azel for the best cocktails we've ever had; Sam for cultivating an incredible garden that makes for incredible meals (and taking the time to talk to us about it!); Nigel, Hector, Shawn and Kobi for their attentiveness and helpfulness; and any others we missed! The staff works really hard to make this such a special place. They're an incredible bunch.

THE FOOD: Because of the remote location, you will eat here for nearly every meal (except for day-long excursions), and you'll be grateful to! The continental breakfast is delicious and filling, and the lunch and dinner menus have phenomenal variety (even for vegetarians). Some of the best meals we've had in our lives were here at Gaia. The organic garden on-site makes for the best fresh fruits and veggies in every meal/drink.

EXCURSIONS: Do not miss the chance to take full advantage of anything that interests you. The guides are incredible, and will ensure you make the most of your day with them!

All in all, we cannot recommend Gaia more highly to anyone looking for a bit of adventure in their Belize experience. They provide so many unexpected comforts in the middle of the forest, ensuring you can feel well rested and cared for while also getting out and experiencing all the mountains, rivers and forest have to offer. If you're the type to balance your R&R with some action, the incredible staff and property at Gaia should be your top choice!

My husband and I visited Gaia for our honeymoon and both agreed it was one of the best lodges/resorts we’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Kobi, Azel, Freddy, and the whole Gaia team are truly wonderful. They made us feel special, the food was amazing, the grounds were beautiful, our room had incredible views, and we’ll remember every moment. We even walked away with a coffee mug to cherish at home. Thank you, Gaia, for everything! We’ll be back.

I don't know the answers to most of your questions, but I can tell you that I think all of the cabanas are adequately spaced away from the restaurant and away from one another. Further, at least when we were there, the restaurant was never crowded and was always quiet in keeping with the overall tranquil vibes of the whole property. We were in a basic cabana type called Mangrove, and it was one of the farthest from the restaurant. Hope this helps!
