We stayed at Dimitris Villa in August 2011. The downstairs room we were given was spacious, air conditioned, with a TV and fridge and the bathroom was tiny but cleaned thoroughly daily.
The big plus was the adjacent pool area, which also served as breakfast venue. Breakfast was basic Greek style with eggs, bread, spreads and coffee or tea. Although we love the sea, we ended up spending a lot of time at the pool because the unrelenting wind made the beach very uncomfortable, whereas the pool was very calm and cool with the grass around. I'm sure we created a lot of noise and splashes but no one complained!

The family who owned Dimitris Villa were very gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome, to the point of offering drinks and fresh coffee even to friends who came to see us. Finally, Matala is a beautiful village with lots of little bars and tavernas, and the food and hospitality was great all around. Definitely recommended for a nice and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room as we had to keep the curtains shut to avoid being seen by other guests...

We spend 14 nights at Matala Dimitris Villa in July and could not have chosen better accommodation for our holiday.

From arrival to departure, the family who own and run the Dimitris did everything in their power to ensure our stay was an enjoyable one. Certainly the room was on the small side, but given that we spent very little time there, apart from sleeping, it had everything we could possibly need including a TV (although we never even plugged it in!) a fridge and very efficient air conditioning.

It was thoroughly cleaned daily apart from Sunday and the bedding and towels were changed every other day.

Breakfast was included in the price and included fresh bread, home made cakes, eggs, cold meat, tomatoes, yoghurt, honey plus loads of fresh melon and was way better than we've had in much more expensive hotels in Greece. Plus the location - sitting outside alongside the swimming pool, provided the perfect start to our days.

The hotel position was perfect for us - free car parking and a nice, easy 10 minute walk to the centre of Matala, while being far enough out of town to be totally quiet and peaceful at night.

Incidentally we actually stayed in the same room as the previous reviewer who seeming had an issue with cockroaches. We spend 14 nights in that room and during that time did not see a single cockroach in or close to our room!

As others have mentioned the WiFi coverage isn't brilliant in the rooms, but works perfectly on the terrace and around the pool area. When there was an issue with connection, a simple word with Marianthi and it was fixed almost immediately.

Overall we both loved the Dimitris and will certainly return in the future. It's not, nor does it claim to be a 5 star resort hotel, what it was to us was a 'real' Greek holiday with friendly, welcoming people who did all they could to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

We liked the Dimitris Villa. It was reasonably priced and included a simple breakfast. Our room was modest but clean and had a good sized fridge and air conditioner. The TV just had BBC world News in English. You do need a car unless you are happy never moving from the beach or pool. The best thing was the pool. Very clean with nice comfortable pool side lounger chairs. We would recommend it. However we had a couple of niggles. As another reviewer said the description of 200m from the beach is unrealistic. It's on the outskirts of the village, a fast 6 minute walk from the centre. This does mean it is a very peaceful location. We didn't mind not having a reception available all day. The shower was fairly ghastly, no shower curtain so the whole of the bathroom became awash and the shower head wouldn't attach at the top so you had to hold it the whole time. If you are driving, it's impossible to find coming in from the only entrance road. So basically you miss the signs, go into the centre and dead end then have to come back out again. If you look carefully on your right, you can see the signs. Try to get there in the daylight! Finally one of our bed matresses was very lumpy. However we'd still recommend it if you're going to Matala

I am actually sat by pool with an ice cold draught beer whilst writing this review. What can I say 🤔 absolutely fantastic experience. Such friendly and welcoming people not just 1 but everyone I met. Rooms are very clean and tidy and cleaned daily. Only thing for me missing was a kettle as like a coffee when I 1st get up. But wasn't a problem as stroll 70 yards to the magnificent pool area for breakfast and as much coffee as you would like. Lovely continental breakfast couldn't fault it . I would recommend dimitris to all my friends and at such an excellent price. Just a 5 minute stroll to the beach and restaurants of matala and no hassle of trying to find a parking space. Much exceeded my expectations.

This rental house has its unique peculiar style that well corresponds with the atmosphere of Crete and Matala, in particular. The rental rooms face a small courtyard with a lot of flowers that make you truly feel you're on holidays now! The rental house is located off the main road therefore, no need to worry about the traffic noise.
As you enter the room (our was on the groundfloor), your enthusiasm might wane a little for the room interior somewhat contrasts with the flowery exterior. It appears dark and small, especially at first glance. Indeed, it isn't huge, however, the space available is sufficient for a couple who spends the whole day outside and the room uses just for sleeping at night. Actually, outside the room, in the courtyard, there is a small plastic set (a table and two chairs) available only for you, so you can have your morning (or evening) coffee there and enjoy the tranquility of Matala.
The reception is located elsewhere (some 100 meters ahead the rental house, coming from the main road), in a separate house where the breakfast is serviced, as well. What makes this place particularly attractive is a nice swimming pool just nearby, which is open from 8 am until 9 pm. One of my favourite memories from Crete will be me enjoying the water there in late evening when it was already completely dark, and the pool and the lawns around it were illuminated by lamps...
A small disadvantage of this place is its bad (actually quite absurd) marking. As to go down the road to Matala, you will not spot any signs guiding you to "Dimitris Villa". Actually, there is one, but visible only if you go... in the opposite direction (= as you leave Matala). Thus, you need to watch out carefully to find the villa, however, since Matala is not big, you'll find it sooner or later - no worries. Anyway, be sure not to go too far (to the centre of village) as the villa is located quite at the outskirts of Matala (some 1 km from the beach), on you left hand side as you pull into the town.
