Read a number of the recent reviews about this beautiful place on here after I had booked our break and all I can say is it is all beautifully organised, the staff are working their socks off to make sure that we have a great time , particularly the restaurant staff, the food is wonderful, we feel very safe with all the Covid measures that have been put in place.
We are staying in the James Fry suite and have another day to go. The suite has obviously been recently totally refurbished with beautiful decor and furnishings. The grounds are absolutely stunning.. really can’t understand some of the reviews on here as I am really picky when it comes to hotels and it is still fabulous . Thoroughly recommend you come and enjoy as we have.
Visited end of August one week.Stunning place .walks. Wake up to cows mooing and sheep bleating.lovely pool with restrictionsSnooker room closed. Can play darts.shop has gone which is disappointing and is that really necessary when we all wear masks.
Staff all wonderful and enthusiastic coping with the Covid restrictions. Entertainment in 2 sittings.social distancing in ballroom and restaurant really good.space to breathe- wish it was always like that.
My only complaint was the food which used to be really good and we always looked forward to .
No buffets any more ,waiter service but no coffee pot or tea pot any more.waiter pours and if you get another one you’re lucky.coffee really strong and cold when you’ve added milk. No croissants or pastries just toast. Why? Money saving .if you get fried breakfast beware you will get a pot of beans but strangely this is not on the menu.
Dinner no jug or carafe of water allowed on table just a glass but we saw carafes of wine on some tables, whats the difference. Brought my own bottle of water in every night.
Carvery meat especially the beef was overcooked dry .probably cold and heated up.same pot of veg every night- peas beans and carrots which were frozen most nights.
You cannot get an ordinary salad any more just an odd concoction.
Figured highly and served with paninis at lunch.awful, smelled horrible, pickling vinegar made bread all wet.
Think with the menus must have been watching too much master chef. After a week was dreading meal time. A Weekend would have been enough. Lots of cost cutting was evident.
Shame as know what it could be like.Do hope things get better as time goes by.
This was our first stay at Cricket St Thomas, and what a lovely place to have a break. The grounds are fabulous, the manor house is stunning, and the entertainment was a group called Sing Baby Sing, they were brilliant. We stayed in a signature room which was lovely and clean, very comfortable. The food is not quite up to Warners standard, but due to the recent pandemic, it is understandable. All said and done, we cannot wait to return and we definitely will. Well done Cricket St Thomas!!!
Just returned from a 5 night stay. On arrival, after checking in, directed to walled garden area, via Leisure Club. Needed help with luggage and no porters available. Leisure staff kindly helped us, as fairly long walk to bedroom. Why not check-in at Leisure Reception, for accommodation in this area? Bedroom was excellent. But quite a trek to amenities. Disappointed with the evening meal. Sticky pork steak, very tough and to offer one chicken thigh for meal. An insult. One meal of lambs liver, was cut so thick and overcooked, like trying to eat sawdust. Then meal, slices of round roast turkey!!. We ate out one night. Roast beef an improvement. Breakfast, first class. Good food in Hamilton area. On the whole enjoyed our stay. Good entertainment. Staff were helpful and friendly. Safe Covid restrictions in place. Enjoyed our stay, on the whole. Just need to up quality, of some evening meals, offered and then would give value for money.
Having been before to Holme Lacey house many years ago and had a great time we were looking forward to what we hoped would be more of the same, but how wrong were we.
The service was awful,it was if they didn't want you there, just trying to get a drink was hard work, you was always waiting, the so called late bar was shut at ten even though we were told it would stay open if people still there, which there were,no smiley faces just miserable staff who obviously didn't want to be there.
Food was served quite quick but luke warm, god forbid if you needed some condiments or some cream for your coffee, you got looked at like a naughty schoolboy.in general the wait staff just weren't helpful.
The whole hotel looked shabby and tired, half not open even though they said they were open for business in August, our own room had an issue with the shower which poured over on to the floor and probably has been for a long time as the floor had holes in it.
Came for a so called stylistics weekend, but all we got was 45mins on Saturday night and were moved out so the next sitting could come,
Won't be coming back any time soon.
