This place is all about peace and tranquillity; an escape from the usual hotel polish, glitz and spin.
I could list 50+ things that need repairing, refurbishing or replacing at the Marco Polo, but to do so would be missing the point. Here there is karma; the only concessions to the 21st Century being a good Wi-Fi internet connection and good air conditioning.
We stayed here for the second time in February this year, having stayed here previously in 2016 and I’m sure it won’t be our last.
There are eight reasonably sized chalet style rooms and a really good Italian restaurant and a swimming pool in a beautiful garden setting, attracting many exotic butterflies, birds and lizards.
The Marco Polo is at Chaweng Noi Beach; a lovely strip of unspoilt white sand only 100 meters away across the road. Although one end of the beach has become a little “Ibiza-rized” since our last stay in 2016.
All the staff are great and the place is cleaned and maintained, albeit a little rustic. It would have been nice to have a desk and chair and tea/coffee making facilities in the room and more than just cold water in the wash basin. Although there are good electric showers in the rooms.
The Marco Polo is located about 2km from Chaweng’s main drag and there is a taxi rank outside the hotel, although like most of Thailand’s Islands now the taxis are run by a cartel; so expect to pay European prices; £6.00 into town and £6.00 out.
To avoid using the taxis, we hired a car for our stay which I would recommend, or if you’ve got the nerve hire a scooter.
The place is run by Richard and Min who took over from Ricardo and Lydia in 2016 and make charming hosts. I’m not too sure though if they think of this as a restaurant with rooms or a hotel with a restaurant. Either way it needs a small amount of money spending on it to brush the aging cobwebs away and just make it feel a bit more 2019.
My wife and I stayed here originally for 4 nights then extended our stay to 7 nights. Richard and his wife Mam have a wonderful set up here. Just 10 rooms all with A/C. All rooms a very large and very clean. Nothing seems too much trouble. Breakfast is bought to you on order and you help yourself to tea, coffee and juices. The restaurant here is mouthwatering. Based around an Italian menu but also with Thai dishes too. Prices here are very reasonable as Ko Samui is a little more expensive than the mainland.
Marco Polo is just across the road from Chaweng Noi beach far better than the main beach of Chaweng (that’s just our opinion though) An added bonus is that they also have a pool and it is very quiet but perfect for that lazy day when you wish to do nothing.
Would we stay here again? 100% yes.
We had one of the best family vacations here! The hosts were very friendly and accommodating by added an extra mattress in the room, renting a motorbike (delivered to the resort!) loaning us beach towels and snorkelling mask to tips on the best beaches! We enjoyed our stay so much we extended the number of nights and they gave us a better rate!!! Amazing hosts! The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The restaurant's Italian food was amazing and delicious, a must try in Ko Samui! The grounds are beautiful and meticulous kept, as is the pool. It was so nice to enjoy a drink while siting outside our room under the covered terrace while our kids slept in the room! A wonderful vacation, thanks for the hospitality!
The hotel is rightly located on the main road at walking distance from the beach (well organized beach center) and close to the town of Chaweng, with all amenities within easy reach.
Despite the almost central location the place is very quiet and surrounded by a beautiful garden provided with a swimming pool. The rooms are comfortable and Thai style shaped. The service was great and the owners always available to make your staying comfortable. The restaurant and food quality are excellent, serving real Italian food. The small free parking place located at the hotel entrance, on the main road side, became very useful to park the car.
Highly recommended for those looking at hotels with style in a quiet environment. Ten rooms available on two floors all properly maintained and clean.
Will definitely use the "Marco Polo" resort again for the next stay in Ko Samui.
The resort is away from the noises of Chaweng beach which you might think is bad but actually its not. Its that sort of resort where you can really relax after full day of enjoyment or after the full moon party in our case :) it has a pool and 10 rooms. The USP of the hotel is the manager - Andre, very accommodating and a great cook.
