I absolutely loved the lodge! Very relaxing, the nicest staff ever. Simple cabins on stilts, no electricity apart from the main house, same goes for WiFi (I believe some cabins do have electricity, but loved the candle lit option more). At night live fire is available in the main house. Some of the better food experienced in Ecuador served by very kind chef from Otovalo.

Favorite activity was a 5 hour hike through forest, we saw 3 kinds of monkeys and many other things, and then arrived at a lovely clear jungle river. Other activities also quite enjoyable, as well as company of the young but very knowledgeable and kichwa guide.

However no need to even leave the room for a great time - squirrel monkeys resident in the lodge came around several times a day either close to loge or to the trees that could be observed from the balcony, and some birds could be seen almost non stop.

The shower stopped producing hot water at some point - when informed the staff, the local repair team arrived, pronounced it fully functional and departed. So I guess it remains fully functional apart from no hot water situation - I just did not feel like making a further effort in this regard, would stay in the lodge even with no hot water at all.

Great price, very friendly to single travelers.

When interested in the forest, but without an abundance of time, go here. It is a lodge with sufficient comfort (hammock, shower, good bed, candle-lit) including the meals, right next to a river (surprisingly no musquitoes, but unfortunately with sandflies). Combination of pure relaxing and activities: short walks, floating downriver, visiting animal refuge. Meals are good enough (ecuador in itself is not for foodies), well timed. Reception was run by a temporary volunteer, little experienced but of good will. She even removed a tarantula from our bedroom.. courageous. Monkeys around the lodge which is great to see them swing in the trees. They are no threat at all. Advise to stay a minimum of 2 nights, preferably 3 to get the right feel.

Thank you for your feedback. We always try to improve ourselves and so it's nice to hear that you had a good time in our Lodge. We recommend repellent to avoid any sandfly bites - they aren't dangereous because they don't transmit diseases but really nasty. Kind regards, the Liana Lodge team

We stayed for three nights at Cabana 3 of the Liana Lodge. The lodge is situated along the river, a 15 minutes canoe ride and 45 minutes drive from Tena bus station. Although there is no electricity in your room, nor in the restaurant area, you can charge your phone/ camera's etc at the reception, which is ofcourse really great. Our guide Zuyu was really great and we did the Ceibo tour (biggest tree of the Amazone), incl. AmaZOOnico (a must do!), in the morning. In the afternoon 'pesca y oro' and we found gold!! (Although it was just a very small piece.) The second day we did a day tour to Rio Rodriguez (swimming in crystal clear water), great (and again with Zuyu). Food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was very good. The dogs Sam and Leila are really sweet. Nice bar. Great experience to sleep in the jungle, with a the sounds of insects, monkeys etc. And real darkness during the night.

Liana Lodge is a boat ride from the nearest road but the rooms had hot showers and the food was excellent. Lovely location with wildlife around all the time. They lend you wellingtons for treks around the lodge. Take a torch though as you need to get from the main lodge to your room at night.

We spent 3 days at the Liana Lodge enjoying the activities. I definitely recommend Ceibo and the night walk where you can see spiders and other small scaring :-) animals. I would not focus a daily program on Amazoonico which is interesting, but considering the proximity to the lodge you can do it every time. I do not recommend to do the Pacaro tour we did separately and were charged I think $18 each which in my view is not value for money.

Regarding the lodge.
Food is good but not so great like I've read in other reviews.
The rooms are nice, small and very simple which doesn't constitute a problem. What is not good is that there is no complete separation with the other room and this can create some inconveniences for instance if on the other side there are great snorers...

Overall good, the poor rating due to the fact that the room may become very uncomfortable missing a complete separation with other guests.
