Booked without reviews, and was scared after reading the first 4 reviews. We found the rooms and pool very pleasant. Room has aircon, hairdryer, shower is lovely and we had a balcony with harbour views. The staff was very friendly and helpfull but at breakfast they have way to little staff. Breakfast was simple (not much choise), coffee is good but the rest ... juice tastes weird, bread/ little pastries dont seem fresh and there was rotten oranges. There was a constant shortage of knifes, cups and bread. Staff worked hard to keep up but they need more employers to prevent this chaos.
Rooftop is lovely but needs maintenance.

So luckily we read all the rather negative reviews on booking-com before so kept expectations extremely low. This way the closed pool “due to the season being over” wasn’t as big of a surprise, nor were the paperthin walls (hear loud snoring of the neighbor) or the extremely limited breakfast. Just don’t count on any brealfast so your expectations won’t be hurt ;). Really the pool closed with 30 degrees C outside?! Basically it means the place has no pool as yet another cost cutting measure.

All that is fine for a crazy cheap hostel style budget hotel ... only that this one isn’t quite cheap. Can’t really blame only this property for that, all of Mallorca is extremely overpriced for comparably very mediocre experiences. Only a cut in demand will help.

Now a few positive remarks: reception has been nice, the main “lobby” and terrace on the roof look alright (and weren’t closed! What a surprise!), parking was alright (don’t come back too late, might search a while, but many free parking spots in the town). Also the aircon worked fine and the bathroom was sufficient and functional (minus the extremely tiny sink). The 15 inch TV is a rather funny joke so we didn’t try whether that actually worked ;).

We stayed at The Som Suret Cool Hostel for one night on a cycling trip around the island.

Positives
Really nice and helpful reception staff
Spotlessly clean
Room around the pool
Air con worked very well

Negatives
The pictures don’t lie but present what there is very well. The walls are newly painted white but over rough plasterwork that looks as if the tiles have been chipped off and then the wall just painted.
The bathroom has a loo, sink and shower - that’s it. One light over sink so showering after dark is a challenge
Hotel is really two buildings a hundred yards or so apart up a steep hill
Main building has a disused / closed wine shop on ground floor
Pool is separate again and run down. Safe but a bit sad and a shame as it’s in what could be a nice garden and bar area
Rooftop terrace and bar exist but are not used.
Breakfast was basic and not very nice

Apparently it’s been closed a couple of years and is now being reopened and refurbished as much as can be and is an ongoing project. When finished could be really great. At the moment it’s an ok place for one or two nights but I’d not want to spend any longer.

I’m so grateful to all the staff at the hostel for the great hospitality and service.
The location is perfect, out of busy main streets. Even though the actual city is pretty quiet. It more comes alive in the evening when the restaurants are opening.
We had a great breakfast, continental buffet style, with fresh sausages and scrambled eggs. My favorites were the small tasty pastries and coffee machine.
The price of the room is very reasonable for what you get. It’s in the great location. If you are not driving, the bus stop is 2 min walk and the room is very clean, with every day cleaning. There is a beautiful deck on the last floor with an amazing view of the harbor.
I can’t wait to hopefully come back and go to swim in Mediterranean at Mondragó Natural Park, which is 30 min pleasant walk from the hostel.
I would only recommend adding an elevator to the facility and having a little stronger WIFI.

Booked 4 nights at the last minute and after reading some of the negative reviews I was not expecting much. The rooms are very basic, a bed, space to hang your clothes and a small but adequate bathroom. Our room was on the top floor and this is where the hotels main attraction is a beautiful terrace with amazing views.
Breakfast was o.k .Either tried or scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage and bread and preserves. Not gourmet standard but you can have a decent start to the day.
We spent most of the days out and about so if you just want something cheap and cheerful in a great location then don't hesitate to book here.

just stayed at the som suret in porto petro, and had a lovely time.

All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was really good, fresh coffee to order was a real bonus with a buffet breakfast.

The area was very good with excellent Spanish restaurants very near. lovely beaches were within a 30 minuet walk there is also a bus.

I would definitely stay again.

I would have given a 5 if the pool was open, but it was the start to the season and the pool was being cleaned.
