Overall we had a nice stay at this hotel. It is old and could use some renovations but it is clean, we saw no bugs in our room. It is a basic hotel with basic amenities but at a very reasonable price. It is nice to have the OXXO store on site. We had a two bedroom room and the AC broke in my room the first night but the other two rooms kept it pretty cool in there. If you use a washrag make sure you bring your own they do not provide them. There do provide beach towels. The breakfast was OK, there was really no breakfast meat except a little bit of ham in the eggs. The bar is not open and neither is the hot tub. If you go to the beach it is actually about a 10 minute walk. But if you need any basics stop at the little stores along the way they are very reasonable. The people on the beach are very pushy but they are friendly. The drinks on the beach are expensive but we found as you go down the beach further they get cheaper. One of the locals took us out on a boat from the beach to go snorkeling at the rocks and we are very glad we went. It was $25 per person for an hour. Massages on the beach are $25 as well and very good. There are several good local restaurants within walking distance to eat at and very reasonable. We never found any that were open for breakfast. I would stay at Casa Iguana again.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Was expecting basic but to have what we needed, but unfortunately it didn’t. We try to book places with kitchenettes so we can at least make the kids breakfast.
Not one thing was terrible about the rooms, but, they had a ton of those little ants all over the counter when we arrived, no cups or glasses just 4 unmatching mugs. No pan or griddle, just 3 random pots. One small bowl and a few plates (we were a family of 4). Beds are hard like cement with one small pillow for each person, asked for an extra for some extra pillow girth, but they had none to spare.Beds are like sleeping on cement. The restaurant food was good for the kids with the hot dogs and chicken fingers, the adult food was pretty bland. We had a margarita and it tasted like it was out of those sugary margarita mix bottles so don’t order those.
There were parties at the pool deck until 4:15am… yes, 4:15am.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few difficulties with the room. There are bed bugs, which should be taken care of (we thought they were mosquito bites at first, but they are definitely bed bugs). The room was quite large (two bedroom); very noisy; the wires sticking out of the walls should be fixed as our friend who is an electrician said it's dangerous; the kitchen needs more utensils, china and kitchen supplies; and we didn't have any hot water for the first few days. "Rustic" is an apt description of the hotel. We were responsible for doing our dishes, which I am fine with, but dish soap, wash cloths and hand towels were not provided so we had to go out and buy them. Breakfast and the kind staff were the best part of staying there.

Worst place for non-smokers. They allow smoking everywhere in this hotel. There are no rules or designated areas for smokers. The pool/common area is small and the smell of cigarette smoke is unescapable.
Worst place to relax in Mismaloya. They allow guests to have their personal music playing load on personal speakers at any hours. From dawn to dusk there is the noise of music playing by the guests without considering other guests.
The cleaning staff are very pleasant. The location is close to the tiny boat lunch beach. The bus stop is very close.
We would never return mainly for the high volume of noise here and the cigarette smoke and smell by the pool and in every balcony which is over the pool area.

My wife and I are Minnesotans early 60's. We've been to Puerto Vallarta 16 times. We love Vallarta but it is too busy for us so the last three vacations we ventured further south to Mismaloya. 3 years ago sight unseen I booked a week at Hotel Casa Iguana Mismaloya and we returned November 9th from out 3rd stay. This is an older hotel so not without flaws. It's amazing for us. Mismaloya beach is a 6 minute walk. Very few vendors around not like Vallarta. Hotel like all have a very friendly staff. Edwardo (Ed) speaks the best English and will help with anything you need. The hotel has a restaurant that will serve you poolside or you can eat at a table under the restaurant's palapa. Many other restaurants and taquerias within walking distance. Oxxo convenience store is attached to the hotel and all rooms have a kitchenette incase you want to make your own food. Uber fare from airport to mismaloya is around $17 US for 2 but you need to exit airport and walk left to a bridge that crosses the hi way first. It's worth the 3 minute walk. Taxis at airport will charge $45. When we settle in we explore each day. We bus most of the time. Bus stop is a 2 minute walk. Fare to Vallarta or Boca de Tomatlan is .50US per person. I'm not sure if I'm able to mention the nightly rate but I'll try. We've never paid more than $39 US per night. We will return next November. Great hotel for us!!

As a solo female traveler on her first trip to Mexico, I had little if any expectations but any I may have had were far exceeded. My trip was very short, and I regret having had only 4 nights with them. Part of my heart is still there and I can't wait to return.
Pictures of the rooms and property are very accurate. The cleaning was exceptional (including the pool), as was the quality of food and service. My suite was huge, very well ventilated, and I never even considered using the A/C because the ceiling fans (quiet but strong) were plenty to keep the room cool all day and night.
Other than the welcomed fantastic morning jungle sounds, during the day it was really quite peaceful and at night after 10pm it is nearly silent.
Having an OXXO attached was fantastic (and that staff was just as friendly, too). The hotel is within 2-7 minute walk to anywhere in Mismaloya including the beach, many great restaurants, vendors, and experiences. There is a bus stop just steps up the road from the hotel. Adjacent from the bus stop are two ATMs (for USD or Pesos). It was a quick and cheap UBER to Boca beach for a water taxi and an easy 10 pesos bus ride back to Mismaloya.
As required for re-entry to the US, I asked the front desk about a covid antigen testing location and they provided me with the instructions for obtaining one across the main road at the large resort. Going inside that resort I realized how lucky I was not to be staying there - the accommodations at Casa Iguana were EXACTLY what I desired, which was authentic, safe, laid back, and felt like a [better] home away from home.

I originally planned to stay 3 nights but ended up extending my stay to 6. While this had more to do with the other lodging I was moving to, it speaks greatly to that I wasn't jumping to leave casa iguana either.
The room was like others have said in that they reflect local architecture. I can say my shower was 10/10 and other plumbing worked great. My bed was firm but I slept like a baby. The pool is cold which generally prevented me from swimming but there is a literal ocean 10 mins walk away. All in all, a very comfy stay.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating too. I got a slight injury during my stay and they were quick to provide care and bandages. I didnt get the buffet so I can't speak to that. However, the location is amazing because you can visit town or the ocean and there is an oxxo next store and a local store 5 mins up the road.
I would stay here again because the price is also generally amazing. Thank you Casa Iguana for the memorable stay.

Some people want to spend money on a swim up bar and beaches but if you're planning on staying in Mismaloya on a budget this is a great place. Clean, nice courtyard and pool and a great price. Rooms even have a kitchenette if you're wanting to save a little more money.
That said, Mismaloya's not really much of a metropolis so there aren't a lot of shopping options. The town has a few restaurants the more expensive the closer you get to the beach but the hotel restaurant has a great breakfast. Can't say much for the bar though as it doesn't really look like anyone uses it (rusted bar stools).
The hotel is popular with gringos and Mexicans.

The hotel has friendly and very helpful staff. The restaurant on site has delicious food. Rooms are spacious and clean. If you want to experience something different than the all inclusive hotels around, Casa Iguana is the right place. You wake up to the sound of exotic birds and fresh air. The beach is a 10 min walk where you can find a lot of local restaurants and businesses offering entertainment rides to the jungle, waterfalls, snorkeling, beautiful beaches. The Zoo is a must see and it’s a 10 min walk away from the hotel. There are few local mini markets that you can find everything that you need from snacks, beverages, suntan lotion, fresh fruits, alcohol etc. The city is small but have few must visit restaurants with breathtaking views and few up the street with very authentic vibe. At night you can find a little taco stand with delicious food. The local children are just playing on the street and greeting all the visitors. If you like tequila Mismaloya has 3 tequila tasting shops that open at 7 am. Hotel Casa Iguana in Mismaloya is definitely a different experience, an old gem hidden in the jungle. Good people, plenty of places to visit and experience the authentic Mexico. The busy night life of Puerto Vallarta is 25 min away with a bus ride for 10 pesos or 200 pesos via taxi. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent for at night and early mornings :) We stayed there for 4 nights and will be back soon!

I stayed here for a couple nights in February 2021. The hotel is located just down the road from highway 200, going towards town (Mismaloya). It’s a five minute walk to Playa de Mismaloya (the beach) and a two minute walk to the middle of town. There’s not a better location to explore from!
The OXXO is right next door so you can grab snacks, drinks, or anything you might have forgotten. It’s very convenient!
Inside the hotel grounds, there’s a large pool and nice gathering area for friends and family. Food onsite or in many of the nearby restaurants. If you want to go downtown (Puerto Vallarta), it’s a 30 minute $10 taxi ride. Loved my stay here and it was very inexpensive. Highly recommend.
