My wife and myself lived in Senegal (Dakar) in the early/late 80s and are currently paying our first return visit touring around the country visiting some new and old haunts. Our last 2 nights were spent at Les Collines De Niassam which is a collection of luxury ECO Huts (a word I use loosely) on a large, fast flowing river with an abundance of birdlife. It is owned and run by a delightful Frenchman who spent a year building the property 20 years ago. How he ever managed to find this site in the first place is beyond me but find it he did!! The ‘huts’ are varied - some in trees and ours (Lagoon 3) is together with one other on a delightful small island that is only reachable by a double planked Walkway. No problem during the day (when the tide is often as not out) but challenging at night unless you deploy the excellent Guardian’s services! Once there, the huts are spacious with a comfortable bed (together with an excellent mosquito net) and a spacious bathroom - not hot water but it is tepid once you get accustomed to it!! Breakfast, Lunch and Dinners are provided and all the meals we had were excellent with a good serving team on hand. All in all, this was a most enjoyable experience and one I would certainly recommend to others provided they did their homework in advance. Rest assured you won’t be disappointed and a warm welcome awaits!!…
This is a perfect hide away and you are in the middle of the pure nature. The hospitality and service of the team is above top level. They helped us organising our tours and made our stay perfect with their daily smiles. The food is more than delicious! We are impressed and will definitely return very soon!
We chose to stay in the treehouse even though the lagoon villa looks nice and didn’t regret it Being perched high up on 3rd floor with views of the sea and surroundings were worth the climb. We had birds visiting constantly, hearing them chirping, and music from nature was amazing The 2nd floor comprised of a small patio with hammock, table with 2 chairs They offered breakfast at the patio which was good though we wished for fruits during breakfast The first floor was the shower and bath. It was partially open space and built around the tree. Food was outstanding We had fish and chocolate cake for dinner, calamari and vegetable quiche for lunch One can wander around visiting the salt plains, cycle, take the horse cart or simply just relax amid the tranquility Great work In blending the nature Bring a torch as the area is dimly lit at night, and mosquito repellent.…
Spent 3 nights here as part of a relatively short family holiday in Senegal Very much the highlight of our trip , we stayed in overwater lodges beautifully furnished and airy despite the heat Whilst very low key we enjoyed horse riding trips around the expansive grounds and bathing in the pool and the lagoon by our accommodation in particular the healing mud we could coat on like a face - pack Staff were very kind and charming as we found all over Senegal( albeit it helps to speak French ) and the food was amongst the best we have ever eaten anywhere in the world Whilst no big 5 experience is available in Senegal we enjoyed getting close to Hyena close to the lodge ( in a horse drawn “Caleche”) and the giant monitor lizards , and the push-up lizards (so called as they do human type exercises ) and the incredible bird life And a big thanks the the very genial and knowledgeable host Jean -Pierre Lack of internet ( only for emergencies ) and luke -warm showers were not an issue for us but might be for others but it was one of the more relaxing places we have stayed …
The lodge is located in a nature reserve and it is beautiful and calm. We stayed for two nights in a laguna room and the views and place was amazing. You could see the sun rise and set from the room, and the lagune next to it was perfect for floating about (very shallow water). A perfect place to disconnect from the world.
Wow what a stay, me and three friends came here for one night to celebrate our friends birthday, and it was truly magical! The French owner was so charming and gave good idea of what to do, such as take a late night dip in the shallow lake and watch the sunrise, the food was excellent, so tasty and very good sized. (Not sure what the other comments below was on about complaining about small portions lol - must have been Americans hehe, for us Europeans they were perfectly well sized). I would definitely recommend it, it was very quiet when we visited, we only saw two or three other couples, which made it feel even more special and exclusive. The staff was super friendly too and they had made an amazing cake for our friend and came and joined in the singing! Amazing! So much fun and definitely worth it, one of the nicest places we stayed at on our Senegal / Gambian journey no doubt!…
This was one of the best holidays I’ve had in ages! The food and service was outstanding. Living in a tree house was very enjoyable, scenic and no need for air conditioning as there was a constant breeze. The view of the night sky was unforgettable. The whole complex was eco friendly as well as very well maintained and clean. Mr Max was spot on for arranging the excursions. Would love to come back sometime soon!
January, 2018: Three nights in a baobab (Robinson 1), the second-storey cabin rocking gently in a wind from offshore that scoured away any mosquitoes. Two days seated or hammocked on the first storey, shade from the cabin above, the cool fresh wind around our ears as we watched the birds descend and take flight, descend and take flight, on the arm of the lagoon before us -- pelicans, gulls, rails, cormorants, terns... Breakfast (eggs as you wish, bread, cake, excellent coffee, the sparrows fighting for our crumbs), lunch at extra charge, but what of it?, with two courses and a dessert, a bottle of wine -- then back to our book, our cabin, watching the slow traffic from village to village along the foot-track below us -- dinner after nightfall, the lanterns that marked the paths through the encampment glowing softly, a bat or two swooping past our table, a handkerchief's worth of fluttering darkness; and then, back at the cabin, cigarettes glowing beneath the infinitude of stars. One excursion, a morning by pirogue through the mangrove swamps, marvelling at the birds, a snack of thumbnail-sized oysters grilled on a driftwood fire set by our guide on a sandbank (écoguide Thomas SARR; piroguier Ignace DIOUF; warmly recommended, trip arranged through Maxim the concierge)... Only a cold-water line for the ground-storey shower-room, but buckets and buckets of heated water on request at the restaurant-bar. The Internet was working at the time of our check-out, so no problem using our credit card; the cooking was beautifully done throughout our stay; the personnel, including Pierre the manager, impeccable in behaviour. I hope that readers will enjoy ourselves as much as we did.…
We had a wonderful time last November for our Thanksgiving break. We spent 3 nights and 4 days with Pierre and his crew. We enjoyed every minute of it. We went horseback riding one morning, we had a guide take us on a walking tour. We took a calèche to go see the hyenas ( unfortunately and after waiting more than 2 hours, we didn’t see any) . This was the only setback during our stay but Mother Nature is unpredictable. The food was excellent and made with fresh local products. The pool was nice and we enjoyed our daily visitors ( the warang: a sort of big lézard about 3 or 4 feet long). The first time, you get scared but then, you get used to them. A couple mosquitos at night and we felf warm the first two night but we expected it knowing that we would be sleeping in a baobab tree. We will be back. Merci Pierre.…
Only stayed one night, but it would be a good place to spend a week in a relaxing atmosphere if you came from a cold region in the middle of winter. The lodgings are quirky tree houses or cabins over a shallow lagoon. I don't think there is hot water available- single faucet both at the wash basin and the shower. The grounds are lush with low plants to bushes to large trees. There is also a small pool. There are walks one can take along the shore or inland to the nearest village. The food service is done as at high class French restaurants- the chef is serving you the dinner courses himself and describing what he is serving. The china is modern and meant to be noticed.
