We had a whirlwind visit of 1 night to Kamesei Ryokan and wished we could stay longer to enjoy the Ryokan and all the local area has to offer. Mari and Tyler are lovely, welcoming hosts and made sure we knew where everything was (how to use the onsen etc.) Our room was cosy and spacious (what a combination!), and...

Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed our traditional onsen inn, especially our chef's imaginative take on the kaiseki-style dinner, as well as the rejuvenating hot spring mineral waters of Kamiyamada Onsen. Next time you come, please try our outdoor family bath "Shinano-buro". We offer it for private use for free for repeat guests (or 2100...

Everyone told me I had to stay at a Ryokan when I visited Japan this August of 2016. Sadly, a lot of them were already booked, just for couples, and/or between $400 and $800 a night. Kamesei Ryokan had room for me, accepted single travelers, and -- as I found out after staying a night -- is so reasonably priced...

mistasean-san, Thank you for 'finding' our ryokan here in our little onsen town of Togura-Kamiyamada. As you indicate, our town still has a ways to go to make it on to the global tourist map -- 98% of the town's guests are Japanese. But the visitors from overseas that do manage to find us seem to enjoy our relative convenient...

I loved this ryokan because of the warm hospitality provided by the proprietors - one American gentleman and a Japanese lady. They were very friendly, picked us up from the train station (which was very convenient), and suggested activities for us to do during our 2 night stay. The onsen inside the ryokan is beautiful, the breakfast is worth it...

Christopher C-san, Thank you for coming and enjoying our ryokan as well as our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada. Surrounded by mountains and with the Chikuma River running down the center, our town is a refreshing relief from the concrete jungle of Tokyo. And the great thing about our onsen town is all the specialty shops. You mentioned our breakfast -- many...

Kamesei Ryokan is an exceptional value in ways beyond the cost of accommodation. HostsTyler and Mari are enthusiastic community boosters and have a wide range of knowledge about the region, town, and how to make a traveler feel they are getting the most for their time and money. The ryokan itself is traditional in decor and aesthetics, and yet there...

John N-san, It was an honor to host you. Although your stay was just one night, it was a most memorable one for us. We are grateful you appreciated our inn's blend of traditional construction and contemporary updates. Our chef is glad you were happy with his unique version of the kaiseki-style dinner. I really enjoyed my stay at Kamesei Ryokan. The hosts were so helpful and friendly. They were always happy to give rides to and from the train station. The food, as others have said, was out of this world. As a vegan, I'm difficult to cook for, but they pulled it off with flying colours. They provided excellent directions for...

This is an outstanding ryokan in Chikuma (outside of the hustle & bustle of Tokyo) with two very accommodating hosts. I've been to a few ryokans in Japan over the years but this was the first time that I was not with a business colleague and took my family instead. While looking at the other guests (almost all Japanese), you...
