This is an unusual place, high up in the hills and forest surrounded by (quiet) wind turbines. Stunning views and an ideal location to explore the SW corner of the Algarve. Not really suitable for travellers without their own transport, and the last part of the approach is on bumpy stony tracks. A modern B&B with spacious rooms, lovely breakfast...

The outstanding feature of Alto da Lua is the warm hospitality we recieved from our hosts Heike, Helge and Philomela. Heike and crew are such warm, helpful and capable hosts that is was a pleasure just to be there. Alto da Lua is an excellent small hotel in a lovely remote location that turned out to be a great place...

Perfect place to relax, breathtaking sightseeing, Heike and Helge became our family after 30 min., the morning fruit salad is a marvel. Only difficulty, no nearby restaurants (13Km) and no food in the Hotel.

This August I spent a week vacation in Alto da Lua with my boyfriend, and we loved it. We found the perfect place to rest and relax in the top of a hill, in a beatiful house with a swimming pool. The location is very good to commute between the southern and western coasts. This allowed us to explore beaches...

Almost impossible to find on the web, Ana's Alto da Lua is a special piece of bliss in a such a beautiful area of Portugal. High up on the hill among the windmill you find a whitewash house, simple extremely comfortable bedrooms with a view over the perfect pool and the hills beyond. The silence at night is breathtaking. In the summer of 2006 we spent 4 nights at Alto da Lua. While formally this hotel is in the Algarve, it is luckily far away from the tourist intensive areas, such as Sagres, Lagos, and Portimão. The hotel is small (with only a handful of rooms), has a nice pool and is located on top of hill, from where...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
With over 70 thousand hectares the Parque Natural de Sudoeste Alentajeno and the Costa Vincentina are one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Portugal. The West coast of the Algarve starts its 60 kilometer's at Cabo de Sao Vicente, the most south-eastern point in Europe, to the Alentejo with impressive rock formations at the cliff line taking turns with gorgeous private bays and lovely sand beaches. The landscape is almost untouched by tourism and has an awesome flora and fauna. Between Lagos in the South and Aljezur in the North lies the geographicly fascinating Serra Espinhaco de Cao. Located in the middle of this amazing untouched landscape, surrounded by pine trees, you will find the small hotel Alto da Lua. It will satisfy your need for silence, a unique place with a 360 degree view over the breath taking landscape of the Serra. The vast view is beyond description! Our house is a symbioses of modern living and the need to preserve the traditional elements. The house is bright and light flooded - most of the used materials i.E. Tiles and furniture are characteristic Portuguese. In these busy and hectic times you will find a place to relax at Alto da Lua. The places and beaches in the South-Algarve and the Monchique mountains in the North are easy to reach by car. (We recommend you to rent a car - we'll be glad to assist). So at breakfast you can plan your daily activities at ease, regardless if you want to start your trip to the north, west, south or east direction....No matter, if you want to swim, surf, hike or just to spend some time in one of the local portuguese coffee bars. Your stay will be rich in impressions and activities. Within 15-20 minutes you will reach the well known city Lagos. Enjoy the awesome Marina with lots of yachts, stroll along the promenade and discover one of the most historic cities at the Algarve. Various good restaurants, typical bars with traditional Fado-nights, lovely beaches with the wonderful formation of the cliffs and rocks of the Ponta de Piedade - this is all waiting for you! If you wish a relaxing comfortable stay in our house surrounded by the beautiful nature of Portugal - you have found it and will return to visit us! ... more   less
