There is a reason our nine-room adult-only luxury hotel is named The Castle: The magnificent structure perched 600 feet above the Pacific Ocean has arguably the most dramatic view in all of Costa Rica. Spectacular, yes. Stuffy, no. Our exceptional staff will ensure your vacation is the greatest of your lifetime. Dine at El Castillo’s own restaurant, Castillo’s Kitchen, a Chef’s Table concept mastering the evolution of Costa Rican cuisine. Experience elements of Costa Rica in every dish in a new and innovative way. Chef Pablo will dazzle you. Welcome to the jungle and about three percent of the biodiversity on this side of the planet. If you prefer wildlife over nightlife, this is the place for you. Whale watching, snorkeling, hiking, deep-sea fishing, zip lining, surfing, kayaking, beach combing, and sea turtle viewing are all within minutes of El Castillo.

The hotel website says the following: "The magnificent structure perched 600 feet above the Pacific Ocean has arguably the most dramatic view in all of Costa Rica." In actuality, the hotel is 180 feet above the Pacific Ocean (which matters, because it's low enough to still get mosquitos from the nearby swamps). The view is fine, but it doesn't hold a pinch to other hotels in the area such as Kura, Alturas or Vista Ballena. "Dine at El Castillo’s own restaurant, Castillo’s Kitchen, a Chef’s Table concept mastering the evolution of Costa Rican cuisine. Experience elements of Costa Rica in every dish in a new and innovative way." The food was acceptable, but not innovative in any way - standard tourist cafe fare. This is not a foodie restaurant. In general - the room was pretty, the bed was fine, it was clean. Definitely overpriced for what it is. I don't like leaving a negative review given that the hotel only recently reopened. However, this is blatantly dishonest marketing. I sent feedback to the hotel manager (who is excellent) directly after our trip, and she said she would contact the owner and pass on the feedback. It has now been 4 weeks and the marketing is unchanged, so I can only assume the dishonestly is deliberate.

This place is amazing. You are treated with royalty. The staff is the best. Whatever you need or want they will get it for you. We love the fact that it is small and not a busy resort. The view is spectacular as well. The meals were so good. Compliments to the chef. My husband caught a grouper on a fishing trip and the chef fixed it for us. We absolutely have no complaints and recommend this luxury boutique hotel to anyone that wants a very relaxing time.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. What a wonderful, magical experience it was, to be in this spectacular spot in the world. The staff were SO kind and attentive, with big open hearts. The hotel itself was beautiful, the bed was so comfortable, and the view from our room was stunning. We loved the troops of monkeys that came to the front yard, and the butterflies, toucans, frigate birds, and other wildlife. The food they served was very good (we eat vegetarian), and the hotel is super close to many other restaurants as well. Easy access to the hotel, even in a 2 wheel drive car. Highly recommend, and we hope to return with family next time!

We booked this hotel for second half of trip, we had come from Oxygen Jungle Villas to El Castillo to experience more of the beach than jungle for our trip. El Castillo is gorgeous and offers stunning views. We had a complimentary upgrade to an ocean view room and it was amazing, the balcony overlooking the ocean was so relaxing to read and watch the sunset. The hotel itself is clean and well kept. The ocean view suite was huge and the bathroom is amazing with such a nice/large shower. It does have AC which is nice, but can also open all the old windows for natural air/breeze. Bed was not super comfortable, very firm and only had 2 pillows total, when asked for more they didn’t have any extra but offered one from a different room (I thought that’s as odd and don’t want to use it due to not knowing if it was clean). The outdoor space is beautiful but downside is that there are only 6 loungers and an outdoor couch. The pictures with a separate cabana area does not exist anymore, it has since been turned into more suites. So if you want to be poolside on a lounger all day, I recommend snagging chairs early AM. The location is nice and offers a convenient loop/road that I walked or ran each morning, it was safe. Overall, great hotel. Huge downside is food, it is not up to the standard of this kind of hotel. We had fajitas, Costa Rican rice, burger, hummus and breakfasts. None of them were that great and the burger was probably the worst I have had in awhile and for $16, just doesn’t cut it. We ended up only eating there once for dinner and once for lunch (aside from complimentary breakfast) as my husband is a huge foodie and works private chef events, so he preferred driving offsite to have better food. It is unfortunate that the food is not at the level of the hotel overall, hopefully they can improve upon it on the future. It would also be helpful for the manager to not make us feel bad about leaving the hotel for dinner each night and instead, recognize that the food just does not match the high price/quality of the hotel. We do recommend this hotel overall, just know that you might want to lookup nearby restaurants, which is fun anyhow tk experience more in town!

Beautiful property in a stunning location. I was fortunate to be the only person staying the one night I was there, so it was like having my own private house. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Breakfast was wonderful, taken by the pool overlooking the ocean. My only regret was only staying one night! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable stay in an incredible location.
